RE: The Software Upgrade

I could just change 'Matchday Talk' to 'Match Thread Archive', keep matchday threads in the main Norwich board and just move them there when they're done and dusted?

That's what it was before, the Match Thread Archive.

Same applies with the prediction league I guess, if Splutcho fancies doing that again, they should be in the main forum too.

I dunno really, nah, it'll probably be fine, I can see what you're trying to do, and it is a bit of a fanny locking the threads and moving them to the archive.

Nah, go with it, and see how it goes, like I say, if everyone can see the sidebar now, it shouldn't be an issue.

I liked the old design, but I quite like this one as well tbf. The only thing I would say is that there are 24 replies to this topic, yet they're all on one page, when usually there's only 20 posts to a page.

I think once all the basics that aren't quite right at the moment get ironed out then it'll be really good.

I can upload pictures.

And don't worry about my last post, I see it's now 25 posts to a page.

Looks great, much more modern and professional-looking. The new logo is good too. I did prefer the way the recent threads on the right were displayed though, so it only displayed the thread once rather than for each post. With the new one it seems that if one thread got a lot of posts it would drown out all the others.
I like that you can see what people have typed, but would be better if it was just one post per thread so as you say, a popular thread doesnt drown out the rest

Just noticed as well, there's no option to reply to any of the topics in the 'Current Canaries' section.

I am, shall I say, a basic user, simply read and reply, so it's all fine with me right now. That said, I will certainly have a move around and check things out. Many thanks for all your efforts on this!!

Is there a way to set my profile so that when i click on a thread that has new replies (a thread i have opened before) it goes to the first post i've not read?

This was the case with the old version, which was a great feature. Now, i have to skip through the several pages of old posts to see the newest post, and even then, it's only taking me to the very latest post, and not the most recent post that I haven't read yet? (so i then have to scroll back through the thread?

(hope this makes sense!!)

That's probably a problem with 'permission' settings, will look at that.

Yes that makes sense, I'll see if that is a setting too.

One thing I'm finding is that quoting multiple posts is a lot easier, previously had to mess around with 'multiquote'.

Wiz, this was an issue that you had with the old version?

If so, is that working with the new version? Need to know the answer to that really mate, because I don't want to kick off with Invision about problems which don't currently exist.

I just logged on with IE11 and managed to copy and paste + reply & quote a thread with no issues on this new version?
Still no luck with the new version working properly on IE my friend, same problems as before, yet on Firefox the new version is brilliant.

But I still prefer IE, I'm about to get Windows 10 so that might change things a bit.

thanks for your efforts with this site.

Would rather work through some teething issues, than have to put up with the trolls/bickering on the OTHER SITE!

Good to hear Wiz.

I'm still getting used to the design change myself.

Aesthetically, for desktop users, this site didn't really need to change. It looked fine. So I was a little reluctant myself to see change.

Think it just takes some getting used to. Some things are certainly a lot smoother.

However, for tablet/smartphone users it is a huge improvement, and with so many people using those devices to surf now I think it will help us attract a few more users.

Also, there will be a point in the future when Invision will stop producing security updates for the old version and I'd have no choice but to upgrade anyway. We had a big spam account issue with that version because I'd not been running the security updates often enough.

Just a case of working out what this software does, haven't tried embedding a tweet or facebook post etc yet....

Test

Oh, you just copy the URL into the post and it embeds automatically. So this software does come with various bells and whistles, just need to fiddle around.

Main thing is that it should be better for iPhone/Android/iPad users.

Just a couple questions: What do the black circles above your display picture mean?   And under the display picture, what does the green + with a number mean?

Any plans to have the black camouflage option returned;  the yellow and green is highly visible...

or is it going to be like the club shirts - same colours just in different patterns?

The black circles I think are to do with the 'levels', and based only upon number of posts started, which would be why you are a 'first teamer' and have 4 circles and Mass Debater has five circles and is a 'Club legend'.

Just those usual forum gimmicks, but I think I set those bands quite low as 'Club legend' was the highest level. I did that about a year ago so can't remember - perhaps need a rethink. Don't really need the circles + the words, so something to look at in the settings.

Perhaps it would be funnier if people started off as 'Steve Walsh' and progressed to 'Mark Fotheringham', then 'Andy Hughes', all the way up to good players, until they reached the highest level: 'Darren Huckerby'.

The Green+ thing is simply the sum total of the number of 'likes' that a person has obtained. There is actually a widget which comes with the software which displays the 5 posters with the most 'likes' for the day, week, month and year, but I removed it to make room for more 'recent posts'. I actually prefer the widget which displays the most popular posts based on likes, but for now I want room for more 'recent posts'.

If I can find a plugin which reduces the length of the excerpts from the latest posts sidebar I will consider using the widget which displays the most popular recent posts. I'd much prefer it if great content / or funny stuff is highlighted, rather than having a list of people with the most 'likes', don't think anybody is on here for attention or recognition and inevitably it would just be the most prolific posters all the time.

Sorry, should have replied to that with the 'admin' account really. Try to keep this one to football.

I can certainly produce a more conservative theme for office workers to switch to, no problem.

But hope you don't mind if I put that aside for the meantime, eyes have gone square.
