I'm not sure if it should be Farke under the microscope right now but Webber and Stone.
If the Maddison injury is long term we've managed to get ourselves in the position where Steven Naismith becomes one of our most important players, after losing Pritchard and Hoolahan and not having the money to sign a new number 10 because we desperately need a few other things... not least a striker and a goalkeeper.
Its very concerning.
Then when you look at £2.5m Marcel Franke being worse than Ryan Bennett, who has a Championship winners medal, and us managing to persuade Alex Tettey to stay on with a big pay cut but not attempting the same with his team mate John Ruddy.
'Sink or swim' is probably going to come down to whether Todd Cantwell, Remi Matthews and Ben Godfrey can ALL step up to the plate to replace the outgoing Gunn and Reed, and the injured Maddison. The former two who we probably can't afford to bring in again if the latter can't be sold.
A long term Maddison injury is a complete game changer. If we can't afford to pay off and replace McGovern and Naismith then it means we've got no choice but to pay and use them. We have to pray that Remi Matthews is somewhere near Championship standard for example.
I mean.... Glenn Middleton may have suddenly have become a little bit useful to have around the place? Especially if we end up playing Josh Murphy through the middle and Wildschut on the left, and if we're skint then we may be forced into something like that.
If we announce the season long loan of Ashley Fletcher from Middlesbrough as the Nelson Oliivera replacement... then that's when we know we are in serious trouble.
I wonder whether the club would be in breach of contract if they cancelled the Category 1 thing and used that £5m for the playing budget. Presumably that would open up a big can of worms?
