We go with what we've got then....

Do we have enough to be competitive til January?

I have my doubts about playing 'basketball' football ie. the ball pinging from attack to defence in five seconds and the five seconds later attacking again. We'll score more goals than you.
Hopefully young Mr Hayden will limit that slightly but it's alot to ask of one injured player, he probably isn't Skipp quality.
My gut feeling is that we'll be having some injury time goals to win games as we did under Farke.
Let's hope for the best.

We have a fantastic squad, for this level, and we are basically managing to win games with no left back, or defensive midfielder.

But surely Morty, you have half an eye on next season?

I would say, overall, we are increasing our core quality. We have paid decent money for the likes of Nunez and Sara. In fact if you look at our transfer fees over the last few seasons, we have been upping what we pay. Obviously some of it has turned out to be shite, but you can see the intent.

But I will admit the ability to bridge the gap between the two divisions may be getting away from us. Unless someone invests next time we go up...

Nunez has looked bright in spells during the past few games but both him and Sara don't have a career record of assisting & scoring anything notable.
That would suggest that they would struggle to assist and score goals over a whole season in the Chumps let alone the Big Boys League.
I really do hope I'm wrong but my opinion is just based on what they've done up til now.

Hayden!!!!
Smith saying that he'll arrange a practice game during the international break for Hayden.
That's another 4 games away at the end of September.
Assuming he's not going to start any games in the week (or 2) following the practice game we're then into mid October at best.
We could have played 15 of the 46 league games before he's up & running.
What a shower of sh@t by Webber et al, we only sign one DM and he's not fit enough to play.
The season started weeks ago!

Obviously Hayden being injured doesn't sound like good business, but they didn't expect Giannoulis, Sorensen et al to be injured so early in the season. A lack of DMs is a problem (always preferred AirWear myself ... sorry) but with fit LBs the role of DM could have been covered by others. A 'reliable source' told me that they did try to get Jamal Lewis on loan but a) they couldn't afford his wages and b) he wasn't interested in playing in the EFL. I am quietly encouraged by the performances this season. It's been a bit hit and miss but 4 wins on the trot and 2nd in the table is a good place to be. Last season's disasters appear to be slowly getting sorted by Smith and my reservations about him are fading with each match. His use of the squad has been good and his tactical substitutions have been effective (something DF was not too good at).
