Injuries happen and form dips, let us hope that he grabs his chance when he gets it.

Yeah, to be fair, they were never going to chuck him straight in. Good to see him involved. I wonder judging by them comments if he has given up on English football altogether though and even if we were promoted and he showed some form he'd still want out.

Think it's the elephant in the room in interviews so he's just drawn a line under it so he can concentrate on this season, i'd be very surprised if he didn't want to come back and prove us (as a nation) wrong.

It's definitely an interesting one because lets face it, if he does well.....then Saint-Etienne will surely trigger the buy clause in the loan deal and sign him permanently. However if he can't score in French football, would we want him back in the Premier League? I find it hard to imagine him playing for again, which is a shame as I was really pulling for the lad.

There's a long way to go as yet, we could be anywhere from promotion to being in a relegation battle possibly losing more assets in January window in either outcome too!

If we had a poor season, and he had a poor season... Well, i don't know where that leaves this deal, in tatters i imagine!! :-/

The one factor i didn't consider was that he wouldn't be playing as their main forward, i just presumed he would.  Another (cheery) thought is that he could be injured for 6 months as an example, and what conclusions could be drawn then if he scores in the interim period!?  So many directions this can go.  Like you posted earlier will be nice to see him smiling and enjoying his footy again... Far as i'm concerned he's still one of us.

If we have a great season, gain promotion and he hits 15-20 goals over there and is vocal in wanting to play the prem again, i wonder if there's anything in the buying agreement that is only applicable if we're still championship at the end of the season?

Saint Etienne are just about to sell their striker Melvut Erdinc to QPR for 7 million. That should lead to Ricky getting game time.

He will be alongside Max Gradel (formerly of Leeds Utd) in the Saint Etienne frontline.

Saint Etienne have started the season really well winning both of their first two league games so he should be going into a confident team playing well...will be interesting to watch if that makes a difference to his game

I think he'll be playing up top with Kevin Monnet-Paquet who they just signed from Lorient and scored on his debut. Or if they could push Max Gradel up higher than he has been playing and Ricky would still be on the sideline. It will be interesting to see what they do going forward.

Max Gradel - that guy used to strike fear into me, is he still lethal?

15 goals in 72 games, as he doesn't play as an out and out striker, that's not bad at all.

Isn't Monnet-Paquet more of a left winger? He certainly played there for Lorient (although as an inverted winger as he is right footed!) although I agree he got lots of goals last season.

I could see RVW playing as the centre of a front three with Gradel and Monnet-Paquet beside him if QPR do sign Eldinc

Impressive knowledge BB by the way - do you follow Ligue 1?

I watched quite a lot of it last year just because I wanted to get my money's worth with BT Sport. Also went to Paris a few times and used to take an active interest in PSG until they decided to spend £300 million building a team.

Mevlut Erdinc used to play for PSG and was always a handy player, so if they lose him that will be a big loss. I think for Lorient Monnet-Paquet did play a lot wider, but Saint-Etienne seem to have set up in a 4-4-2 this year with him and Erdinc playing as out and out strikers.

Think you're absolutely right though, if Erdinc leaves then a front three of Gradel/Ricky and Monney-Paquet would make the most sense.

Another game and another seat on the bench for Ricky.

Hopefully he gets more than 2 minutes at the end. Will be hard for him to rediscover his form if he doesn't play.

If you're not fussed with the Sunderland/Manchester United game, Saint-Etienne are actually on BT Sport. I'm gonna record it and watch from when Ricky comes on (If that happens)

So Ricky came on in the 55th minute today, and despite Rennes being absolutely dreadful, unfortunately he didn't really do a great deal.

He still looks devoid of confidence, he only had a couple of touches in the box, both of which were a little loose. He also looked very annoyed with poor service, and I can't blame him that much as the couple of times he got into good spaces, the delivery to him was severely lacking.

It's going to take a goal to get Ricky going you feel, but you just can't see him scoring at the minute. Saying that......he's only played 37 minutes so far this season.

I'm both happy and sad to hear that BarclayBoy, did he get a decent reception when coming on?

Reception was pretty standard to be honest, nothing special and no more notable than any other substitute appearances.

Thanks for the updates, BarclayBoy88, please keep them coming! (don't have BTSport or SkySports so can't watch i'm afraid)

Will watch as much as I can, already had a slight interest in the French league so this gives even more incentive to keep a close eye on it.

They have a game against PSG this weekend, so hoping that will be on BT Sport as well.

Ricky got his first start tonight and lasted 75 minutes against PSG, who absolutely thrashed St Etienne 5-0. I didn't see it, put looking through the text commentary, his name appears three times. One when he was substituted, one when he committed a foul and finally when he was caught offside, so I don't think it was a great night for Ricky or anyone for St Etienne.
