Just reading an article that Jake Glossop has signed a long term deal. It made me realise that I have totally lost connection with what is going on in the youth / U23's, I used to follow and have reasonable knowledge, but not so much now.

Anyone know anything much about what is coming through?

I’ve just read the article about Glossop on the Pink Un (the bit that is still working). They’ve done what happens a lot and left out what to me is basic information when I read something like that and it winds me up.

First, what position does he play?? It says full back but right or left? That makes a huge difference, we have three really promising left backs. At right we have Kellen Fisher who at one point looked like he was off to the PL and Jack Stacy, who has his plus points but is an older pro, so won’t be with us longer-term. A good right back will be far more useful in a season or two than left.

Second, apparently we’ve offered him a longer contract than he signed earlier this year. We obviously see promise in him. But how long for? If we’d upgraded for example from 12 to 60 months, that would tell us a lot about how good a prospect the club believe he is.

I like the Pink Un, I shell out a (little) bit to read it. But isn’t this stuff basic journalism? Even if they said they didn’t know, it’s better than just leaving an unanswered question.

I’m probably just grumpy because I’ve got a cold….

Completely agree, the standard of reporting and journalism is probably the main reason that I have lost touch with what happens in our youth system.

And no, I have no idea where he plays either...

But presumably the Pink Un team know about the club website, was it too much trouble to look up?
