The Owner On Radio Norfolk

As a resident of Milwaukee (But not a Norwich supporter) I turned in from home to have a listen!

What I can say is what he has done with that team stadium and facility is immense. The Brewers won their division beating the huge money making machine that is Chicago Cubs consistently. They didn’t quite make the World Series but it has equivalency to Norwich making the top six in the Premier League

I am an English expat before anyone asks.

I sincerely get the impression that despite his thoughtful tone the chap didn’t do enough research (or others didn’t on his behalf) into what he was getting into.

The fact he has had to backdown to supporters over seating arrangements tells me that he/his minions was treating supporters in the same way as they would be in the USA where the depth of feeling at any game in any sport just scratches the surface.

The bigger issue IMO is the incomings outgoings including the manager.

Mr Manning plays a certain way. (I have watched on many more occasions than anyone at Norwich for sure) His “style” is not what fans want anywhere and is only forgivable if you are winning.

To win players have to buy into the continue recycle and to be frank most players don’t but eventually buy in enough.

That takes time.

My opinion is Norwich made a bad choice in the head coach, based upon one sixth placed finish.

The owner tonight repeatedly referred to the consistent success of Mr Manning and his style. That’s someone pulling the wool over his eyes because it is simply not true!

I think Zoe Webber and Ben Knapper are looking over their shoulders this morning. He used a number of examples from baseball for which he's getting a bit of criticism but baseball is what he knows and he clearly feels more comfortable talking about it. Having said that, whilst he's a bit naive around our game, he knows how to run a sports club and I think there will be changes quite soon.

The way I read the interview was that a) He believes that Knapper and Manning are not singing from the same hymn sheet. b) there is an acceptance that relegation would not be bad thing, so more money could be spent on players (on the Birmingham / Wrexham models). With the club's recent record of recruitment, who can say that money would be well spent? c) Mark A appeared surprised that Zoe Webber et al were given a rough ride at a recent meeting d) That the sale of Nunez to the others down the road was a "See the noughts on the cheque" reaction, without any thought of the message it sent to supporters.e) Among all the "corporate speak", it appears to me that his strategy is to use the next 12 months to assess the competence of the existing Carrow Road hierarchy. There are many people in Norfolk at present who could save him the time, money, analysis and angst by giving him an instant (and not favourable) descriptor in that area.
