Just to provide an alternative angle, consider the case of Adam Lallana. Playing in League One 3 seasons ago, decent player, but IMO hugely overrated. Played a bit part in his national teams World Cup like Fer, being part of a far inferior squad and team which didnt even qualify from the group and in fact came bottom, and certainly didnt score. He is apparently worth 25m. Because he is English. Do most people think that Lallana is three times the player that Fer is? Because I dont, personally

Says that Stoke met our asking price, but we didn't want to sell - which suggests we did have an asking price but changed our minds over the deal. Could mean any one of a number of things, e.g. could mean that another player is leaving to boost the coffers instead, or could mean that we had a replacement in mind who is no longer available.

Could be those things, CB, or that the Chairman is referring to the asking price quoted in the papers. I have a feeling that McNally doesn't do 'asking prices', just says when a bid is high enough to be acceptable.

Yeah or could have quoted a high price thinking it would scare them off, and then had to turn them down when they met the price - whichever way you look at it, does sound like we weren't the slightest bit receptive to selling him, which bodes well as it suggests there isn't a huge black hole which needs filling.Could be those things, CB, or that the Chairman is referring to the asking price quoted in the papers. Strange that Adams wouldn't confirm anything about Leroy Fer in his post game conference. Got to imagine he is off, especially after being left out but strange that Adams wouldn't be drawn on it.

Why is Fer being compared to Tettey? Have I missed a choice that the club is making between the two?! Must admit I see them as quite different.
I noticed they made a comment on the football league show after the Watford match and put it down to ignorance on their part comparing them as goalscoring/advanced midfielders.
Bottom line for me regarding Fer is that Personally if we're looking for promotion I would prefer to build a premiership capable squad than Championship capable, and 'think' Fer could be that level.
Trouble is anything over 8m is good money for someone we 'think' is top level, and if many believe it's a toss up between him and Tettey then yeah I rate Tettey just as high as Fer so not a bad situation to be in.

This is taking a while, some were saying he had passed his medical yesterday.
I've just accepted that he's off now and want to get on with it. As soon as the window shuts and our team is settled, I'll be a lot happier.

There is an easy way to find out whether SSN are lying or not.
If Skybet are still taking bets = lying.
If all Skybet betting is closed = telling the truth.
They are no longer taking any bets on Leroy Fer's next club, therefore I believe it.

They weren't being compared by me... All my point was that basically I'd rather lose Fer (for £8m+) than Tettey as I think we have players at the club that can play the Fer role. Tettey (as he proved yet again last night) is such a class player and I think a lot of fans don't realise or have forgotten just how good he is.

Yes definitely, comparisons aside, right now i'd be more concerned if Tettey left than Fer. While Fer could boss this league, i don't think he's the right fit for it mentally. Tettey however, you're right, he can be immense on his day and is hugely self motivated for a tough season at this level, i still rate him highly and developed a cult love for him if only for his great face pulling!
Interesting you say having cover for the 'Fer' role, when you think about it we're lucky in the fact that we haven't got the need for someone to play the 'Fer' role, i.e. there's never been a reliance on him in the first place - Unlike Wes for example.
In reality he's probably never been part of the equation/thoughts of Adams and the team has in no way been built around the attributes he offers us.
Will be very interesting when Howson's fit to see if he comes in and in what position.

I guess it is important to stay in the Premier League and to be part of the national team-set up for qualification games, but it's not a tournament year.
