Qpr agree £8million fee for Fer

Us keeping Fer or not will have no effect on the chances of us getting promoted this season for me.
If you believe that's the case then it's a no brainer that we sell him then. I struggle to see who we'll bring in that will help us. We've earned £20m this window already after we were told "we don't need to sell" and to be honest, there's just not the names around that'd be interested in joining that are worth spending that sort of money on (maybe £10m for Rhodes aside). If we're getting Cuellar, it'd be nice to get a top class replacement for Bassong who looks like he's killed his Norwich career.

My view has always been that Tettey is a better player for us to have than Fer. Tettey performed WAY better than Fer did in the prem. I think the fact that Tettey is Norwegian and didn't score a lucky Goal in the World Cup has paid off for us.

I just hope we do actually spend some of this money coming in now.

Tettey and Fer are completely different players in my opinion, but I completely agree that Tettey performed to a higher standard last year in the Premier League. I always viewed Fer as an ATM player who should be playing in a similar role to Wes, I think that's where he'd be best. So my concern now is if Wes goes down, who comes in? I guess Howson, but he can't be relied on to stay healthy. I'd like to see us invest in a very good centre back and a very good midfielder. I don't see the need for another striker, we need to bring in players who will actually give the strikers a chance.

"The EDP understands the proposed transfer will top Robert Snodgrass’ move to Hull City earlier this summer, with QPR set to pay £8m for the Dutch international and the balance linked to the terms of the 24-year-old’s original move 12 months ago from FC Twente. City are also believed to have negotiated a 20% sell-on clause for any future transfer."

£8m leading to £10m with a 20% sell-on fee sounds like a reasonable deal to me. Sorry to lose Leroy, but every player has a price.

I hope the Jerome and Cuellar deals are true and that we can then use the Fer money for a quality ACM.

£8 million for us, get out of paying £2 million to FC Twente and get a sell on clause which will come in handy once QPR get relegated. I'll take that.

Riddle me this.

If we got promoted and QPR got relegated this season, would you be happy with us paying £10m to get Fer back or do you think we could do better?

Unless he improves a lot this season there's no way I'd want us to spend £8-10m on Fer.

Even comparing Fer and Tettey is laughable. Tettey does one thing well, and that is to read the game well enough and be mobile enough to intercept well. Aside from that his passing is very limited, his shooting generally awful (I know he has scored some good goals, but theyre the exception not the rule),he is not creative. Tettey is a very one dimensional player. Im astounded anyone thinks he is a better player than Fer

Completely depends on how he performs this year with an attacking team like QPR. If he bags himself 10 goals and a fair few assists, why would you not spend £8-£10 million on him.

So in a weird sense, this £10m selling him is good business. No doubt we'll lose some of that to VAT and all that balone though I doubt we're paying any tax on our (non-existent) profits this financial year. Hopefully we got paid our sky money before April 1st and only the parachute money this year.

I think we've done well to get effectively £10m but it'd have been nice to see how he'd have done at this level. Ultimately I think I was kidding myself thinking he might stay. We got 20 mins at least in an already won game!

The big question now remains, who are we going to bring in. Often in football, like houses, there are chains. We'll have probably had people working on deals that are just waiting to be signed off. I do think we're short a quality centre back. Someone who would really take the mick at this level. I can't think who we could attract though. We have the money. Perhaps we should go looking for the most promising players in League 1 like that bloke Alli at MK Dons or even Will Hughes from Derby if we push to our rivals.

What I said was that Tettey is a better player for us to keep for the Championship and I 100% believe that. Obviously they are very different players but that only backs up my point. The fact is that Tettey has performed consistently better and Fer for Norwich. I also think we will see Tettey be more creative at Championship level and be more attacking.

Don't worry Shaun, TGMD thinks that Fer is the complete player so any perceived criticism he doesn't like

Fer is nowhere near a complete player and has a lot of improving to do. Based on his performances for us last season £8m is more than he is worth, Jordon Mutch is a better player. Having said that he could really improve at QPR and it turn out to be a bargain! We shall see.

Quite possibly, it would make sense that dropping a level will see players who struggled do a lot better. Tettey, personally, I think is very surplus to requirements. If we could move him on for 4m Id see that as a great piece of business. Notice it is Fer who is being coveted and not our other more limited one-dimensional midfielders. I am one of BJs biggest critics, but that is because I didnt think certain aspects of his game were Premier League standard. He will be a pivotal player for us in this division, he doesnt need to be Premier League standard anymore. Tettey I just dont rate as any more than a one-trick pony, though his goal the other day suggests you may well be right and that playing in this division we might see more from his all round game.

Fer would have been great in this division, but it doesnt mean we cant go up without him

It might hearten a few to know why Stoke did not sign Redmond:

IMO, the Board has kept a reasonable balance after being relegated.

Fer certainly does have some improving to do, but remember, he was in a struggling side, surrounded by inferior players not on his wavelength and it was his debut season in a new league and a new country, plenty of players need a season to adjust.

Fer, in my opinion is a complete midfielder, and this is because he has an even balance of attributes within his game. If you are going to say he isnt a complete midfielder you also need to state what you feel are the attributes he doesnt have? Fer can do everything, as opposed to our other midfielders who can only do something.

I dont disagree that Fer needed to improve, but in terms of ability he has got the lot

I think he has the technical ability for sure but I do think he is pretty lazy and just strolls around the pitch a lot of the time watching the game pass him by. He went missing far too much for Norwich last season. Tettey has a lot more energy, always gives 100% and never goes hiding.

I think he's as close to the complete midfielder as you're going to get in our league....

...game of opinions 'n all that.

Fer is lazy and Tettey always gives 100%. Can't see it myself.

Well, we'll see what happens this season when Fer is played in a way that suits him.
