Any chance of some player ratings for the game from anybody? I was up all night dealing with the consequences of some dodgy ham from Aldi, then slept from 10am to 7pm, woke up disorientated in the dark having missed the footy. Must have lost half a stone

I see that Cuellar played, how did he do? Despite conceding two late goals, did we generally look more solid defensively before that? Were we outclassed by Forest, or were we just sloppy again?

Don't know if you don't ask!
Exactly. Ipswich punched well above their weight to get Mick McCarthy, who could have held out for something better but just wanted a quick return to football. We shouldn't limit ourselves to unemployed managers either, we've stolen one in the past and could steal one again.

Or if the board want to do it on the cheap again, then Gary Holt had a 48% win percentage at Falkirk.

My opinion for what its worth

Ruddy 7/10. Picked the ball out of the net twice and that was it.

Martin 6/10 Defended OK and bombed forward but his delivery has to be questioned.

Cuellar 7/10 Calm at the back. Always looking to play the ball out.

Turner 6/10 Did well for so long and then got caught on his wrong foot again and we opened  up for the first goal.

Ollson 5/10 Not really worth his place in the team right now. Easily beaten and looking to blame his co defenders too much.

Howson 7/10 Linked up well for someone playing a bit further right than normal and scored a beauty.

O'Neill 6/10 Slow start really and can be caught asleep but did link well with Howson for long periods.

Tettey 8/10 Our man of the match. Best player on the pitch after Osborne for Forest.

Johnson 7/10 Played almost left sided and played some sublime balls and other times gave it away

Jerome 7/10 Always a nuisance to defenders playing Bundesliga last season. Has to try and stay onside more.

Grabban 4/10 His main job is to score and he has lost his mojo. Sitter of a header would have put us two up deservedly.

ONE SUB!

Lafferty 1/10 He is a liability. Has a massive chip on his shoulder. Total waste of dirtying his shirt today and can only assume Jerome was injured.

Adams 0/10 Megalomaniacal insistence on yet another system. But still played Turner on the left. Made one sub when it was crying out for Redmonds pace second half and Hooper to play off Jerome.

I guess others will disagree but that's my four penneth.

Wouldn't disagree with much of that Eaton. I am staggered too that Redmond wasn't brought on at 1-1.

Think Pulis is the obvious choice tbh.

Not sure why we wouldn't want him.
A proven track record of a worse footballing style than Hughton?! I would rather watch us flounder in the Champs than go up playing that dull hoofball crap.

Ah, I did think that kind of predictable response about Pulis' style would come up.

I guess my thoughts on that are that I like to see Norwich winning and being successful. Promotion by whatever means is fine by me.

I would also say...we're Norwich City. We're not Man City, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. We're not going to be blessed with piles of dosh and world class players. We've got to fight to succeed and keep alive. I don't think we can afford to be overly snobby about the brand of football we play.

We did a bit of long ball under Lambert, it worked for us and we all loved those 3 years.

OK not Man City, Barcelona etc.

Could we maybe aspire to be a little more like Southampton or Swansea though? Surely thats not out of reach for a club like ours?

I'm sorry but winning football at any cost is not entertaining and is the quickest route back to some of the dullest football I've seen us play in years under Hughton.

Predictable because it's so widely recognised? Of course it's predictable, it's what his entire career is founded upon. There's nothing else to say about the man. Calling the comment "predictable" doesn't make it any less accurate.

Yes we are Norwich, with a rich tradition of playing attractive, passing football. Those years under Hughton were so boring I actually started to lose interest in Norwich. I've seen us in some dire straights, and not once has my interest and passion wavered, but watching Hughton's brand of hoofball crap actually ruined the fun of watching Norwich and I started to think about whether I could really be bothered to watch. I absolutely think we can afford to be overly snobby about the brand of football we play. Winning is not the be all and end all. Under Lambert we did resort to long ball on occassion, but with Pulis, that's the only game plan. There is no Plan B, or C for that matter. Just hoof, flick on, repeat.

As I said before, I would rather be entertained watching us lose, than watch us win 1-0 every week with route one football and go back up (to watch us park the bus and hoof long against better teams, win about 15% of the games and scrape staying up at best).

I actually know a few Palace fans off a different forum, and all of them have said that Pulis did not once play 'long ball', 'ugly' football at all whilst at Palace.

I think that any new manager needs to be confident that he can meet objectives without any drastic overhaul of the squad, two or three signings maximum. I'd be concerned that Pulis would want to oversee a complete overhaul of our squad. Would people like Howson and VOO have a place in a Pulis team? Stoke were never renowned for their finesse, and the ball often bypassed the midfield.

Perhaps I'm not giving him the credit that he deserves, and he has more strings to his bow, but number one priority has to be a manager who believes that we are only a couple of shrewd signings away from having a team good enough for promotion. We need to avoid appointing a manager who thinks that our squad needs serious work. It doesn't, we've got a good squad, perhaps a good left winger and a quality right back short.

I know a few Stoke fans and all of them said he played long ball for his entire tenure there, which was approximately 9 years longer than his spell at Palace. Up to you whether you take him on the basis of the rule, or the exception, but all I will say is that he didn't have the players to play long ball at Palace, and was not supported by his chairman in the transfer market. Make of that what you will.

Just for the record, we didn't play hoofball under Hughton, that's utter rubbish. Played much more of that under Lambert.

Sticking Wilbraham on with Holt for for the last ten minutes and getting Fox to just pump balls into the box was one of his specialties in the Championship, a lot of late goals that season!

My brand of football is pass and move. That is just a preference. Many managers play this system and the successful ones have the personnel to carry this out.

Some clubs play a system, and I think hoofball is unfair, which is based on getting the ball forward in the least number of passes or as quickly as possible. And some top managers like Dalglish at Blackburn didn't knock it about in the middle when they had Shearer and Sutton up front. Why would you?

Tony Pulis is stuck with the tag of long ball. But as far as I can see, teams are allowing us possession at the back and for much of the game its Turner or Martin hitting long balls forward. And how many teams who are 1-0 down with 3 minutes to go think the best way to score is to pump it into the box?

So as far as I am concerned, I would prefer to see pass and move, push and run whatever you want to label it but do know that there is a place in the game for playing differently and that may include the long ball. Spurs were masters of push and run but that didn't stop Hoddle hitting 40 yard passes to the front men.

So I don't think we should brand anyone.

Its a results business. If Pulis came in and played hoof ball to get us promoted then I would take that all day long. If we fail to go up this season we are realistically looking at several years of Championship mediocrity ahead. We are not in a position to be selective on a style of play. Promotion this season is the be all and end of. Lets worry about a style of play if and when we ho back up.

Can't disagree with too much of that. I'd probably give Jerome and Johnson a slightly lower rating, but on the whole I definitely agree.
