If he dived - and let's face it, the replays aren't clear either way but are suspicious - in this division the standard of refereeing is poor and we've had a few poor decisions against us this season so I wouldn't feel bad about it

I don't approve of diving but the guy swung his leg recklessly, wasn't getting the ball and could easily have clipped hoolahan if indeed he didn't.
I dont want to make excuses for diving, but it is a bit different to me from when defenders aren't making a challenge and attackers move their leg to collide with them to buy a penalty.

Well for once it's us not moaning about a penalty decision, but I'd say Wes was looking for it. It seems to me that there was contact with Layun's foot and that Wes might have been reaching for that contact. Not a dive as such, then, but dubious all the same. On the Football League show Steve Claridge commented that 'the ref was the only one in the stadium who saw that as a penalty'. Biased of course as he is a Londoner.
It did turn the game though. Before that both sides were battling towards a 0-0 stalemate. Perhaps it would have opened up as players tired, but the goal advantage certainly made it easier for us. Perhaps a case of decisions leveling out over the season as a whole. Having said that though, both Jerome and Grabban's goals were gems and Watford never looked like producing anything similar.

I think the Watford Manager's take on it is reasonable. It was a dive, the penalty gave us an impetus, but Watford failed to respond, and lost their way and shape. They've managed to win some high scoring close games this season; they couldn't do it yesterday because we didn't let them, and they couldn't impose their home advantage on us. All's fair in love, war and football. What a wonderful season thi s is shaping up to be!

Kind of a small point, but just watching the highlights, what the hell did he book Tettey for? That was one of the best tackles I've seen by a City player this year.

Ah well, the ref made massive errors for both sides.
My first reaction to seeing that penalty decision was 'thats never a penalty', but often you can change your opinion depending on where you look. Watch Wes and it doesnt look like a penalty in a million years. However, watch the watford playes foot and keep your eyes glued to it and it looks like he hacks at his foot. Certainly controversial

Would you agree with this. Would it have likely finished a draw if not for the decision, or were we looking like we were going to get something anyway? Did it change the game?

Difficult to say 100%, if I'm honest, but goals certainly change games.
We pushed forward a lot more after half time so looked more likely to score.
But you could see Watford visibly crumble after they went behind.
I have seen reports say they had the better of the first half, but it was fairly even for me.

Superb goals both of them. What a great ball by Whittaker and equally great execution by Grabban. Good footwork by Grabban in the Jerome goal and good initial work by Howson.
Never rated Jerome before we signed him and was non-plussed when we did. So glad to be being proven wrong week in week out - superb instinctive finish

Jerome has scored some belters this season, this goal sits alongside the strikes at Brentford and Bournemouth, for me.

It seems to me that we no longer do scruffy goals. All the goals in the last few matches have been a cut above.
