Whilst I would be the first to agree that a goal scorer is needed, inconsistency would seem to be our biggest problem atm imo.

I am willing to put yesterday down to tiredness from Chelsea, and also Sheff U being streetwise in exploiting it, even when we were chasing the game it never really felt like we were going to get anything out of it. We will get 2 or 3 fresh faces in this week, regroup, and hopefully bounce back next week against Brentford next week. The way some are going on, on other forums you would think the season had ended yesterday. Absolute drama queens.

To be fair that is pretty much the season over. It would take a pretty exceptional run for us to get playoffs from here.

I would say the biggest problem is Webber and co leaving us for several games with one striker who cant score, cant hold the ball up and cant create chances. Or win anything in the air.

Hopefully the 3 signings you mention come in soon and settle exceptionally quickly because our squad is crazily threadbare in certain areas and its costing us.

I wouldn't disagree with that, but certainly not about the season being over, and thats not just daftar$e optimism on my part either. There are more than enough games left for a team or two in the playoffs to go into a terminal nosedive. Sheff U may have beaten us yesterday, but they are in a very poor run of form just now. What happens in the next week will determine if yesterday was the end of our current run of decent form, or just a blip.

I think the thing for me is that we have seen that sort home performance a few too many times this season. So i don't think it can just be put down to tiredness and taken in isolation.

When you play Chelsea you know it's going to be a case of digging in. Battling. People accept that. But when you're playing a team at your level at home it's a different type of game. You need to find a way to open them up and beat them. Yesterday we saw the same issues we had seen plenty times before. I remain unconvinced that Farke has got the right formula or indeed formulae for this league.

We need a couple of forwards in this window and we need to start seeing it head the right way in the second part of the season. Because if it doesn't it only gets worse.

It depends how people see as our season over. Personally I’m going to enjoy watching Lewis, Gunn and hopefully Cantwell progress for the rest for the season regardless of our final position. Don’t forget we still have a target of finishing above the binners, they would be gutted if that happened :)

Watching young players improve is good but it doesnt determine if a season is over or not! We havent been above them lot too often this season if at all.

I would love it if we went past them either after the local derby or at the last game of the season :)

Oliveira gets hardly any flak compared to Jerome, why is that? After seeing highlights, it looked to me as though Tetteys bad back pass was very close to corner flag, I can't really blame Gunn for that

Blimey Gerry, we must be reading different social media, Oliviera has been getting absolute pelters!

We did look tired, particularly until we got in to our stride in the second half with the substitutions, but I have to say that Sheffield United looked a very tight unit who did us tactically.

I have mentioned elsewhere, that I actually find it totally unacceptable that a club of our size and current status is operating with just one striker in the first team squad, even if its just for a game or two......and the only striker we have after a promising start, now doesnt appear to give a toss unless its Chelsea on the TV, well that's how I see it rather than loss of form.

To have just two strikers available at our level is stretching things, as you really need a couple of striker options sitting on the bench if you are serious about getting out of this league, so just the one is a disgrace.

The man tasked with the job of managing the squad is Webber, and whatever you think of DF he has been let down big time......its a joke and it feels right now like we have an amateur running things.

I understand what you’re saying but I’d wait until midnight on the 31st before I jumped off the burj mark . It’s easy to call Webber an amateur ( I really don’t get all the anti Webber sentiment) but it could be we thought we’d have that lad from Middlesbrough in by now and it’s dragged on for some reason.

I think Webber is working to a plan, and pretty much doing exactly what he set out to do. When Farke was asked about the lack of attacking options he pointed out that Murphy and Watkins can play there, so we would manage. And whilst it is obvious we need a striker, January is a ridiculous time to buy anyone, you only have to look at some of our January panic buys in the past to realise that. I doubt we will buy a striker, and we will probably go with a loan or two, and get people in, in the summer, and at the same time properly evaluate where our youth players are in terms of development. That should be, and will be, our first port of call, no point in having an academy, and not using it.

Agree partly with you Morty, Webber is certainly working to a plan, its pretty transparent, I understand why and am happy with some of it...........however, its very clear that the part of the plan titled "striker options" has gone dramatically wrong, because the plan just would not have included having just one specialist striker on the books during a critical part of the season, regardless of budgetary constraints.

DF is being loyal with his comments quite clearly too which is understandable.

He has messed up big time on this part of the plan, I hate to be critical of the club I have supported for close on fifty years, and rarely am, but this time I'm actually very angry about this particular topic.

Farke said that we would have 2 or 3 in this week hopefully, so we'll see where we are come Friday. With Watkins on the naughty step it is far from ideal in the striking department. I would like to at least see a backup striker on the bench by Saturday, purely for selfish reasons as I am going to the game!

Murphy and Watkins just aint strikers. Not at this level with this way of playing. We arent blessed with width either so moving Murphy central would be criminal.

We should have been getting a striker in before we sold Jerome. As soon as we knew Pritchard was off. Which was probably december.

No other club in the league is lacking in the striking department to the extent we are. Im not sure what part of the plan that is but it aint the best bit of it.
