As time goes on I see our time in the Prem with Lambert as more and more of a wasted opportunity. I feel that if we could have just stayed one more season then we may have cracked it. That was our chance.
Unless we go up and Attansio throws about 200 million in...
Absolutely. Likewise, it was the decision also to sack Hughton with 5 games to go that was an odd one because he was more likely to have had the know how to try and get the win we needed (recall the 0-0 draw against Chelsea). I didn't like his set up and style of play but arguably he had more chance to save us that season. Gave Adams a tough job with so little time left. Like the decision to bring in Smith after Farke (going against everything the management had told us was the policy) it stands as another poor board decision.

Easy in hindsight to say but I would have kept Hughton in post and sacked him even had he have kept us up. I would have kept Farke too at the time of his sacking and have been looking for a replacement in the same mould and not just because someone had come fresh to the market (or in Adams' case a rookie within the club). I understand why the club made both decisions but they were poor ones and both gambles that didn't pay off. I suppose for balance they brought in Neil and also Lambert when the incumbents were struggling (Adams and Gunn). Both good decisions.

It's why I still try and believe in the 'strategy' in the Thorup appointment - even so, I dearly wish we'd brought in Will Still (was he available?) because he is the real deal and more league hardened arguably.

Edit: Good to see Wright start. I felt he was decent against Plymouth. The fact he wants to sign also a very good sign. I quite rate him. See Gibbs back too. Such is the strange unpredictability of this season what are the odds we go and beat Sunderland!

My biggest worry is I feel we’re fighting yesterday’s war as it were.
We’re seemingly setting the entire club up to play a possession based (and in my humble opinion rather dull) style of football, when the teams we possibly could emulate such as Palace have already moved on to a much more direct style full of pace and power. Even City are struggling to make it work at present so I wonder if it has been found out before we’ve even got it set up.
Managers aren’t daft. If 26000 novices in the stands can see that if you put pressure on the defenders trying to play tippy tappy football they’ll inevitably cough up a couple of goals, you can be certain professional opposition scouts will have noticed it as well
