I think we will win but I am concerned about bassongs liability to long balls over the top and Ipswich's strength at set pieces, both will be their game plan.

I agree. They've got that Sears kid from Colchester who's extremely fast. I assume their tactic will be lump it in the air to Murphy, who'll flick it on to Sears. I don't really see how Martin and Bassong can deal with that. Neither are very quick for defenders and neither are particularly strong in the air. I can't see us keeping a clean sheet tomorrow.....but we're gonna score 3 so its ok  ;)

I'd be happier if Turner plays against that sort of attack

Bassong has kept better players than Murphy quiet in the past.

Bar Watford's second half recovery, thats a great set of results for us. Both teams have everything to play for tomorrow. COuld be one of the most important East Anglian derbies for years.

Ordinarily you might worry it would end with a chess match, but I imagine both teams will be fired up. Could be very tasty.

Whichever team wins will go third a point off auto-promo

Draw is a missed opportunity for both.  Middlesbrough beginning to choke?

Agree with that GMD, as well as with the previous posts. This is a test for AN and one I think he will pass. Ipswich will be looking for us to come on to them so they can break with long balls to Murphy for knock downs to Sears. We need to be patient and keep the attacking/defending balance that AN has so carefully built up. Dominate the midfield, cancel out their breaks over the top and goals will come. OTBC!

I've been to 4 out of the last 5 derbies, and we've won all 4 of those. The only one I didn't go to of the 5 we lost, so I'm hoping that my presence is some sort of lucky omen :D

Can't ever remember being so nervous on the day before a game. I'm shitting myself. God knows what I'll be like 5 minutes before kick-off tomorrow. Even if you take out the fact that this is a local derby, it's a huge game, particularly after today's results. The winner of this will go third, and in our case just 1 point behind Middlesbrough in second. But then you add in the fact that this is an East Anglian Derby, then you've got an absolutely enormous game. Whilst I am nervous though, I am buzzing at the same time, because if we win it'll be an incredible victory.

Team:

Ruddy
Whittaker Martin Bassong Olsson
Redmond Howson Tettey Johnson
Grabban Jerome

Harsh to drop Hoolahan really after his excellent performances in the last couple of games, but I have to be honest I don't think this is the time of game that will suit him. He's a great option to have off the bench though, as is Hooper. I think the only 2 players from that line-up who might not start are Redmond and Jerome, for Hoolahan and Hooper, depending on what system we decide to play. Ultimately I'll trust Alex Neil though to choose the right team, as he has done so far.

I just think that a win tomorrow is too good to be true. A win against our local rivals that would take us above them, and within 1 point of an automatic promotion places, after most of our promotion rivals fortunately lost the day before. That unfortunately doesn't sound real to me.

Secretly, I think we'll win. But I've predicted draws in the last 4 games and we've won them all so I'm gonna stick to that logic and hope it pays off again. 2-2.

I'm not too sure about this Bassong not being good in the air mentioned a few posts ago. The last game I saw (Wolves a couple of weeks back) he won literally every single aerial challenge he went up for. Seems pretty solid in that department IMO!

Really can't wait for tomorrow now, especially after today's results. It's impossible to call so I'm not even going to try, will just hope and pray for 3 points. COYY!!

The thing is as well, David McGoldrick is the main ball-winner for them up top, but he's out of tomorrow's game. And Daryl Murphy isn't the type of player that is comfortable with 40 yard balls being lumped towards him, and Bassong could deal with him comfortably.

I don't think Bassong is as good in the air as Turner, but as Safri said he is still pretty solid in that area.

Bassong actually has the best rate of aerial duels per game won.

In order:

Bassong
Hooiveld
Cuellar
Turner
Bennett
Martin

I think with Basso generally he's been good in the air since he's been back, but a few times he's looked a bit uncertain facing a route 1 ball lumped downfield at the forward, which is a surprise. Don't know If it was lack of match practice or what.

Turner is good with headers in open play but can be suspect at set-pieces, as in the home game against Reading where he lost his man twice for two free headers and two goals.
