This team scares me, I hope we win of course, but unusually for me I am really disappointed in this selection, plus like Pinto, but really do not see him as captain material, although cant see alternatives in that eleven.

I thought Ivo did a good job as captain, if he wasn't encouraging team mates he was trying to organise them when Brum had corners , a lot more vocal then Russ Martin.
i also thought Tom Trybull had an excellent game

agree with that about Trybull, particularly good in the first half, but I have to say I think Josh should of got MOTM today, thought he had a stormer, Brum couldn't cope with him, granted his delivery wasn't always spot on, but he made some excellent runs, and did put in some really good balls to, just needed some of the other forward players to make more of a gamble in getting into the six yard box
Also was good to see Klose back in, got an assist and did everything he needed to defensively, his passing wasn't all that crisp but was good to see he's learnt his lessons and isn't afraid of launching the ball into row z when he needed to, should come on well for that too as it was his first competitive outing for months

Right result in the end, and we really should've had more. Nelson missed a couple of good chances and Murphy should've done better after a couple of good attacking moves. Have to say though whilst it was far from our best attacking performance, defensively we were excellent. Birmingham did have a lot of new players and it was clear that the cohesion wasn't there with them yet, however they still had some very good attacking players and yet none of them ever really posed us much of a threat. Can't remember Gunn having to make a diving safe all game.
Didn't think there would be anything that would be able to surprise me going into this game, team selection-wise. But the inclusion of Trybull certainly raised my eyebrows. However, I actually thought he was arguably our man of the match today. Wasn't expecting him to be as good as he was in honesty. Did a very similar job to the one that Reed has been doing recently, except he was slightly better in the air. Klose had a very good return to the team. The Birmingham front line didn't put him under too much pressure but even so he won practically every header he went for and obviously set-up Oliveira perfectly for the goal (although he's probably a bit annoyed Nelson didn't leave it as it was probably going in anyway). Nobody had a poor game really. Murphy's decision making a couple of times in the final 3rd could have been better, and Vrancic despite showing some great technical ability is still a bit lightweight. Still not 100% convinced on our left back options either. Steipermann did an alright job but I do worry about when we'll come up against better teams that we'll be particularly exposed on that side. Not gonna complain though, we held a 1-0 lead for near enough 90 minutes which is promising, and the more this side, and in particular this defence, play together you would assume the better they would get.
As for Pinto being captain, it was a surprise as well. I would've thought either Tettey or Klose were stronger candidates. Maybe because they haven't seen many minutes under Farke he decided against it. Pinto did a good job with it though so again no reason to complain. Do wonder though now that we've got more defensive options and Rus presumably won't see as much game-time, whether Pinto will be captain quite regularly.

If Wes had lost the ball half the amount of times Maddison did I dread to think what some of the posts on here would be.
In Maddisons defence he never went hiding and constantly asked for the ball, even if he did lose it almost straight away afterwards.
Anyway, defensively we cant complain as Brum didnt create a clear opportunity and they do have some good players.
Josh was a massive threat on the counter, Brum were scared of him.
Oliviera also played well and worked extremely hard. Only negative against him is trying a couple shots from impossible angles when we'd just worked so hard to gwt the ball of them and had a chance to keep the ball a bit and relieve pressure.

Only watched the second half but agree with both of those things, one benefit of having Pinto as captain is that he probably saved Oliviera from a yellow card when he started mouthing off at the ref!
And was surprised at how decent Trybull looked considering he was free, signed on a 1 year deal and had a one line wikipedia entry.... might be the big surprise this seasson!
Not sure I really understand what Stieperman is supposed to be, did an alright job pitching in as a no-nonsense full back but didn't look much cop the couple of times he got forward, supposed to be an attacking midfielder by trade - I know its a bonus that he can do a job at left back right now with Husband playing so badly, but he's on a 3 year contract so a bit confused as to what he offers us in the long term.
Felt like we ran out of steam towards the end and surprised he didn't bring Jerome on for the last 10 or 15 minutes against tired legs to be honest, I know Nelson had a couple of late half chances but thought Jerome coming on to press defenders and the keeper might have helped us out a bit.

Well, it's not looking very good for Husband. Stiepermann doesn't appear to be a particularly natural left back but he looked better than Husband.
Stepermann looks like he has probably got more to offer if he gets a run of games.

Well deserved win with plenty of hard work and passion. I had a different take on Trybull. Looked fairly poor to me, and I woild say tettey was the more solid in that DM role. Stiepermann also not great, but overall the defence was better. I even started getting less.worried about corners as we were much better defending high balls. Ditto for balls in over the top - hardly anything was allowed to bounce and we just looked less permeable. Partly as Birmingham were poor. Overall, a hardworking peformance, not a.classic but definitely encouraging. We looked much more like a team than Birmingham did.

I'm not saying that Trybull was the best player on the pitch or anything, but for a freebie who was signed to make up numbers after the Thompson injury and possibly didn't have a pre-season anywhere... he looked alright, decent enough squad player.
Tettey hasn't got the legs to play 90 minutes every week now, don't know what this means for Harrison Reed but to be honest I think he may be better as a more advanced 'box to box' type, like Howson and perhaps we'll see that at some point.
We were crying out for Pritchard in that second half when we were on the break though and that's something to look forward to, imagine playing the tight football that we played today but with Pritchard as an outlet.
Also, Josh Murphy really does look more willing to pitch in than his brother doesn't he? That's not to say that Jacob wouldn't be doing the same under Farke, but sometimes Jacob was like playing with 10 men under Alex Neil. Probably the system / being drilled into him rather than the attitude I guess, but I'm leaning towards Jacob being the bigger goal threat but Josh being the better all round player. Delighted with the win and clean sheet from a team selection I was really concerned about.
I thought Murphy was the best player on the field and Nelson is clearly a class act, but beyond that, dare I say I wasnt particulalry impressed, sorry if that irritates or annoys anyone.
Now, I dont get carried away with negativity after a couple of defeats, although was close to that after the Millwall match, and also it does take some consistency in results and performances for me to get excited.
So, why wasnt I particulalry impressed? Perhaps the stream I was watching made the game look slow (?),as I thought it was a game played at a relatively slow tempo and that Birmingham didnt get of the bus until the second half, and even then they looked very poor and like a team with six dubutants who have just arrived and who are on a poor run of form.
Even though it was better than a couple of other games when we continually played sideways and backwards, we still did that a lot and at times the game was boring and predictable....other then Murphy that is.
If ever there was a game for us to go for it and push back a very poor opposition, then this was it, but we failed to do this with any real intensity or enthusiam, so many times we were on the attack, yet without players getting in to the box to receive a cross, hence we had Nelson & Murphy taking a shot due to no other options.
Without being in the ground itself, its very difficult to see how Pinto did as captain, and these days the Captain is not such an important role as there should be several leaders in the team anyway, but again, against a team like Birmingham were yesterday, I expected to see him bombing up the line more than he did, as when he did they were very uncomfortrable with it, everything was so tentative and nervy.
After the tonking they received yesterday, hopefully Burton will want to put on a decent show and will cause us more problems than a Birmingham side who hardly tested us defensively, as we need a really good test that ends with a convincing win, and not one that I thought made us look mid table despite being delighted with the three points.

Olly has a knack of scoring from nothing, when the game is going against us even.
For this reason, he should be on the field as much as humanly possible.

Hmm. I thought Oliveira had a good game although he didn't win a single header and missed a one-on-one (difficult admittedly),and bent another shot wide of the post. I don't think he's significantly better than Jerome in terms of what he brings to the team, but he does deserve to be starting at the moment. I wonder if he'll be rested and come on after 60 minutes tomorrow though. Or the other way round.

Bottom line is that Nelson scores goals. Cam used to but doesn't anymore.
