It is a truism - even in the champs we struggled to break down a defence that had decided to sit deep,  we can hit teams on the break but are unable to break down a defence as the current midfield become too ponderous on the ball and the strikers simply too immobile.

Even from the pre kick off huddle (what in reality can the captain say) to the predictable kick off routine of lumping it out to the wing and I don't recall that working either. Those are the things that reminded me of Hughton, the scripted areas of the game. Lack of flair was evident in the playing staff particularly in midfield and that is why we couldn't break anyone down enough times to give the striker(s) a 1 in 3/4 chance to score.

If AN thought that shoving two strikers on and playing it long was the only way of scoring after 85 minutes or so why didn't he try that in the first 5 minutes?
