1) we didn't have a team prepared and ready for the opening games.

2) we've bought several players who 'are for the future' hoping that they come good.
Surely it's better to intersperse those signings with experience of playing in the league we're looking at.
For example Hayden has Premier League and Championship experience but it's been a rare occurrence for us to bring in a player who is fit for purpose (and yes he's still out injured).

One of the problems we have with our lower budget is taking risks on players like Hayden who are cheaper because they're an injury risk. Limitations of our 'self funding' model!!!

So you buy one or two proper players to improve the first team rather than a big pile of hopefuls.

Limitation of our model. We have to buy players with resell value or take punts.....

I have no issue with us not being 100% ready, I'd rather we get the right players in, than get what is available within a certain timescale.

The trouble is though, the Venn diagram is complex. If we want Premier league experience, chances are we can't afford it. If you buy Championship "experience" then it is likely overpriced too, and also likely not good enough for the Premier league.

Now people can cry all they like about our model, and what it has brought us, but I bet that at least ten Championship sides would happily swap places with us.

I do humbly apologise for this, and will continue to refer to you as Cars ( Mr Cars ) Most likely a few of the young whippersnappers on here, don't have a clue what I'm maudling about. Gunvald Larssen is a character in a series of 10 novels about the Swedish detective Martin Beck. Gunvald Larssen is Martin Beck's rather abrasive and aggressive colleague. Gunvald Larssen is the bad cop to Martin Beck's good cop. The books are excellent. The profile photo is of the Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt who played Gunvald Larssen in a Swedish TV series called 'Beck'. Sadly, he left the series a few years ago.

Mr Cars.Totally agree with OR, another sensible old timer. I am intrigued by your reply, and will keep an eye out for the books. Are they on the same lines as Stieg Larsson or Jo Nesbo?
