That's probably fair BB.

Maybe I was just watching him more closely yesterday for all the obvious reasons!

Neither do I think that a move to QPR is a very good career move for him at this moment in time. A small club with a small support and the hint of instability about the whole hierarchy.

I like Tony Fernades (good airline etc.) and don't even mind our 'Arry, who is usually on the receiving end of much derision from football supporters in general, but there always seems to be an air of impermanence about them both.

On the plus side LF should benefit from the wisdom of Glenn Hoddle who has just joined the club and will likely one day manage it.

It comes to something when little 'ol QPR are able to poach our best player, but then there is a fair liklihood that the two clubs might swap places again next season.

Fingers crossed.

A good season here as one of the stars of the Championship might well have put him in the shop window for that move to one of the big teams that he seems destined to eventually make. He has time on his side after all.

Instead he will again be amongst strugglers in the Premier League. More exposure, more wedge, but still amongst the also rans. .

I agree - would rather a bigger club than QPR for Leroy - every chance we could be waving as pass each other next season.

and if he doesn't want to play championship football then I think he will be on the move again after a season

If Leroy hasn't asked for the move, then selling him shows a complete lack of ambition and commitment by our board in my opinion.
I was actually thinking this earlier, if Leroy Fer is prepared to stay then selling him for £8m would be senseless.

I normally take 'complete midfielder' to be a midfielder with a well-balanced set of attributes in terms of tackling, passing, shooting, pace and acceleration. Ronaldo and co are at the pinnacle of complete midfielders, Fer lower down the pecking order, but still good and one of our more balanced midfielders. He was good enough to make the Netherlands squad and they're no pushovers, as demonstrated by how far they got in the World Cup. I get the impression that his priority is getting game time and I think that may have been a factor in giving him 20 minutes yesterday in place of Wes, a message from the manager that he will play him, even if he's not back to peak fitness yet. We had lots of good players on paper that were underperforming last season. Last season it was fair to say we were less than the sum of our parts.

Digressing slightly, but in that vein, It was noted by some that Wes looked disheartened to be taken off, but from the manager's perspective, after three goals and none conceded it's fair to say that the likelihood was it was job done, so why risk Wes more than necessary when he'll almost certainly be starting mid-week?

Just don't understand QPR link..Surely Leroy cannot be that deperate for premier footbal, that he wants to go there. Can understand Everton,Spurs,Newcastle type teams...Maybe his agent is being a pain..If he is playing and performing well for us, surely he would attract more options in January. I know that he is a Dutch squad player, but why could he not keep that position till January if playing regularily with us? Good chance that we would be winniing games and maybe not QPR

if he goes i dont give a monkeys where he ends up;  he will only leave for a club playing at a higher level who will both pay him more in wages and our asking price;  whether we view the buying club as "worthy" is more than a little bit old school Leeds big club mentality and not something I can really buy into.

Whatever happens Leroy won't be here come the end of the window. He's just too good for the Championship, and if he stayed with us even until January I would be both shocked and overjoyed!

I'm sorry rare brand of complete midfielder. Did you watch him last season. That is utter utter rubbish. He was crap last season after September.

And yes he scored a goal at the World Cup. He played bloody 10 minutes the whole tournament.

James Rodriguez is a complete midfielder Gareth bale is a complete midfielder ronaldo is a compete midfielder.

Leroy Fer is a bottom half prem midfielder at the very best. If he was compete the Real Madrid or Barcelona or a top 6 prem team would be paying 20 million

Utter utter rubbish and I'm being polite because I like this forum but I'm nearing getting a warning post with some of the tripe people talk
I consider Fer to be a complete midfielder because there isnt really anything he cant do. Look at our other midfielders over the years. Fox - couldnt tackle, Wes - cant defend or shoot, BJ and Tettey - Cant pass or create, Surman - No strength.

Iv said many times we have had midfielders with singular strengths and we've needed to play them all to get all the components on the pitch. Fer is rare in that he doesnt need to give it to another player to cover for a weakness in his game. He can pass, tackle shoot and create.

I agree that I was disappointed with what he achieved last year, but I felt that way about all of them. In terms of ability, I feel Fer is head anc shoulders above all our other midfielders. Just my opinion

NA: "Leroy Fer trained with us today and he's in the squad for tomorrow. That's where we are at the moment with that."

Guess he's not having that medical after all today.

I personally think it's worth the gamble. If in January we are nowhere near then fair enough, let him go but I think he could be the catalyst to us running away with promotion. What do we lose for keeping him until January? Nothing as his value will stay more or less the same. What could we gain? Potentially £100m if he is the difference between 3rd and 2nd come May.

Well you obviously didn't see the game Saturday, Johnson was pinging the ball around like Messi.

Fer is weak, he couldn't hack the pace of a Premeirship season, Johnson and Tettey did ok in the Prem.

And yeah 3 goals and 2 assist is wonderful for someone who can shoot and create.

Also his effort and body language were awful, when we were struggling his head dropped and he was like a lost sheep, unlike Johnson and Tettey who always get stuck in.

The stats totally undermine your statement

The stats say we were better with Leroy in the team. His effort and body language were not awful at all, you saw that because you wanted to see it.

Ha ha, ok, like you lot see him as a brilliant player worth £20m

He is Dickson Etuhu the second.

Fer had a poor season like every single Norwich player (besides possibly Ruddy) which is why our fans voted Carlo Nash player of the season, but I think we all saw glimpses of what he is capable of - even if it were just 45 minutes there and 45 minutes here. West Ham being the perfect example, where he was anonymous for 45 minutes and the completely bossed the game in the second half.

In the analysis of that game Jamie Carragher said that Fer needs to be playing like that more often, because he had the potential to go on to become one of the Premierships most complete midfielders. Coming from somebody who had played with Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso, and being one of the better pundits around, I'd say that he is a good judge. Not by any stretch suggesting he could be as good as Gerrard, who is an extra special talent, but Fer definitely showed his potential last season even if his season as a whole was largely ineffective.

In this league, if he can stay fit, I suspect he'd be unplayable. Every player who is still here from last season is effectively getting a chance to make up for a poor season, and fair play to them for taking it rather than bottling it and leaving. If Fer stays then I'll include him in that, would show him to have a lot of integrity and to play football for reasons other than money (if we can safely assume that a QPR move would see him given a healthy pay rise by Fernandes, which I think we can).

Personally I'll support any player who sticks around and shows that they want to play in Yellow and Green, and soon forget any player who doesn't..... if Fer wants to stay then I'll support him, if he doesn't want to stay then don't see the point in having him in the squad tonight.

That's taking it to extremes, nobody is claiming he's a £20m player. I think we'd be better keeping him here until January at least. I really hope he starts tomorrow so we can see for real how good he'd be at this level.

Johnson had a good game on Saturday, but was still the 3rd worse passer in the team.

Fer struggled last season with an injury and played a long run of 90mins around Christmas that stifled him due to tiredness (this was also the reason Howson got injured as well).

Fer is a immensely talented footballer, that is why he has played the joint highest number of Dutch U21 games ever and was called up to their World Cup team. He had difficultly in adjusting to the Prem at times, but it is never easy in a team that is struggling and under a lot of pressure.
