Pilkington WOW

On a highly personal note and probably entirely unfairly, Pilkington does seem to be an utter tool.

This is why we should have got a new manager. Everyone could have started with a clean slate. That includes Bassong & Becchio.

Perhaps they did, Adams' tenure started in April and he admitted that he'd formed an opinion of some during those 5 games. Keep hearing about a tweet from Becchio, didn't see it myself (saw the Gutierrez one).

He doesn't come across as the sharpest knife in the kitchen, but he is a very talented player and it would be a shame if he is prepared to stay but is being forced out - Redmond and Bennett didn't look like world beaters today.

Seems strange that he did use Becchio in 1 of the 1st team friendlies, but when Lafferty was injured and RVW was finalising his move before the friendly at Carrow road (cant remember if that was celta or nice) Morris was on the bench ahead of him. Seems very bizarre.

Not that I'm advocating taking sides, but which side are you on?

Lot's of Pro Adams/Anti Pilks on Twitter, but I can't shake the feeling that Neil is wrong here.

Difficult to choose a side when you don't know the full story, but if players like Becchio and Pilkington are being judged on their actions last season, and Hoolahan's are being forgotten or forgiven, then that does make you question whether that is double standards / a lack of consistency?

I can't imagine that any player did anything worse than Hoolahan (Who I am delighted to have back on board by the way).  Makes you wonder why Pilkington was used so often in pre-season, and wasn't he taken to Italy?

He is a talented player but I've increasingly got the impression that he could be a rather disruptive character. I've no idea who is in the wrong here, Pilks or Adams, but it doesn't appear to be going right for either of them, or the club.

When you get dissent from a lot of players you do have to question the manager. It looks like Bassong and Becchio didn't want to play for Adams so it's not surprising they got frozen out. But Pilks wants to play and if he can reproduce the form he showed in his first season with us then he's exactly what we were lacking today. You can hardly blame him for speaking out when everyone is thinking he's a walking sick note and he knows that's not true.

If Adams is saying Pilkington (a player who has suffered from injuries most of his career leading to some Norwich fans calling him a sicknote) is injured and he's not, I'm sorry but that is really bad news.

Clearly going on Twitter to cause trouble isn't going to help and will probably lead to Pilks being shown the door, but I can see it from Pilkingtons point completely.

Just what is the sense in Adams saying he's injured, when he's not?

I suppose he's got the same injury as Bassong and Becchio have had since Adams came to the club?

What I don't understand is why you would claim that a player is injured if you don't consider him part of your plans, because that would hinder any attempts to sell him on - what possible good could come out of making an already injury prone player look even more injury prone than he is? He only has one year left on his deal, if he isn't required then we should be trying to get some money for him.

Seen enough already can we please get rid if Adams and get in a proper manager. Let's follow the example of a decisive chairman like Huddersfield

Beat me to it, my thoughts exactly - makes no sense at all.

If I was Anthony Pilkington, with his injury record, and my boss was lying and saying I was injured when I had got back to and maintained fitness, I too would come out and deny it. If he knows he's out the door anyway, it's not exactly good for future employers to think he's injured again.

Raises a lot of interesting questions:

  • If Adams doesn't want him playing and is freezing him out, why dress it up as an injury instead of just saying he's not playing him? Generally, he's seemed to be pretty open about what's going on so this seems a strange fib to make, particularly when it's so easily found out.
  • If Pilkington doesn't want to be playing and is looking elsewhere, why does he want to clarify that he's not injured? Could it be a way of him making it public that he wants out?
  • If Pilkington's disaffected with the club, why is his banner a big close-up of the back of his Norwich shirt.
Very hard to know what to make of it.

That's another thing that doesn't make sense. If the club wants shot of him, why devalue him by saying he's injured?

Can we assume that as Pilkington's tweet is still there after 2 hours, he had every intention of causing this debate? Not saying he is right or wrong to do so, but it is likely that the clubs press officers will be aware of this hoo-ha?
