Against Villa or not, if he was any sort of team player, he'd have loved scoring that goal and showed it.
I just can't believe he wouldn't celebrate in regards to not upsetting the opposition, i just can't see the mentality of doing that, but i could understand it being a statement to us that he wasn't happy..   I Could be naive and very wrong on the matter however.

I'm glad Wes signed or is about to sign.  I have always liked his intensity on the pitch and his quality and creativeness on the ball.  Last year's mess about him wanting out was unfortunate and almost cost Norwich his services.  Luckily the board wised up, got a new manager, and in the process have kept Hoolahan.   B)

The diamond was pretty much the only formation Adams used during pre-season so I expect it to feature heavily this season - I think he also tried it at Fulham away.

Whilst I welcome a new contract for Wes, it is incredible Norwich are going into another season with Hoolahan pretty much the only option in the 'No. 10' role. Think the club has been crying out for someone there.

Fer and Howson can both play there, but they aren't quite as creative as Wes, although provide a greater physical presence.

I think its rather the other way around. We only have a number 10 mentality because we need to accomodate (or get the best out of) Wes. I think if Wes left we'd forget all about number 10s

Everyteam needs a midfield playmaker, whether they play like Wes or not is a different matter, but there needs to be someone to get the ball to players in dangerous positions.

It is especially important if the team is set up with only one striker. I think Adams will play a more traditional 4-4-2 at times, which will mean Wes will miss out on those games - but Norwich were in dire need of someone to pull the strings in both of Hughton's seasons at the club - failing to bring that player in, or for Hughton to trust Wes, ultimately resulted in the clubs relegation.

Adams has used at least three different formations in pre-season: the diamond (4-1-2-1-2),a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-4-2. In the first two, Wes has a big role to play, but the latter doesn't suit him. Judging from pre-season, the first two look like being the most common, IMO. Although the 4-2-3-1 looks like a sole striker formation, Adams uses it to play Redmond and Grabban on either side of Wes and behind Lafferty or Hooper, which makes it a very attacking formation with pace and penetration. The Diamond is also attacking, but allows Wes, Surman, Howson, Fer and presumably O'Neil to probe defences with intelligent through balls to the two strikers.

Apart from all of those games where he switched to a flat 442 or used 4231. It would be odd if we were going to use the diamond in a majority of games when our most threatening players are wingers.

Do agree that a new number 10 would be nice but there are more important positions to sort out right now.

When did he use 4-2-3-1? I thought he always had two strikers, with Redmond playing as a second striker in several games.

We've got a lot of pacey players in the squad now, no matter what formation we play it's going to be quite dynamic in that we can cover distance and stretch teams - I don't get caught up on formations so much unless we're playing a rigid game, can't see that under Adams, i think we'll be a blend with a fixed back line and holding midfielder.

Also, what's up with the diamond? It seems many don't like us playing that? Is it the reliance on Wes or just the style of play people don't like?

I think it was Bastia where we started with it. Pretty sure it was Hooper leading the line, Redmond and Bennett on the wings with Wes, Howson and Jonson making up the rest of the midfield.

Only real reason I can see people not wanting the diamond is that they want to see Redmon racing town the wings. As a big fan of Surman and Wes I'm glad to see the formation back.

This is a huge vote of confidence in Neil Adams.

Really couldn't care less about Wes anymore. If he cuts the mustard, then he plays, if not the bench. Simple,NCFC and the fhe fans owe him nothing, he's just paid help
