Ruddy and the World Cup

Ruddy missed out on the World Cup. Presumably because of Hodgson's love affair with Foster, but quite possibly also to the Norwich snob factor. We've seen with past examples how moving to a bigger club can enhance international prospects - consider Juninho, didnt get a look-in with the Brazil squad whilst at Boro, but as soon as his transfer to Atletico Madrid was announced, and before he had even played for them, suddenly he was 'selectable'.

So despite a solid season for us, continued presence in the England team, he was jetissoned at the last moment when Foster decided he fancied a jolly.

If Ruddy had moved to Chelsea for instance, and warmed their bench for the most part, but had the occasional outing in the cup competitions, would Woy have been more likely to select him? What if it had been Liverpool's bench, seeing as he seems to love all things scouse?

If we can get back up this season then he'll be fine. If not, he'll probably have to move on to fight for his England place.

I don't think Hodgson should have kept his job after that World Cup performance, just got the squad selection and tactics completely wrong.

Ruddy is where he is for a reason imo, he's not good enough to be England keeper, and non-surprisingly he would be at Chelsea or Liverpool if he was deemed good enough, playing for these clubs you have to be international standard even to sit on the bench - So if you're thinking it's an England snub to Norwich then the same could be applied to Chelsea/whoever for not coming in with a firm bid.

I'm pretty sure Hodgson makes his selection based on who will do the best job, not whether they wear a Norwich shirt.  And if any of us were dong the job we'd tend to go for players who have played high pressure big games for big clubs before shipping them off to Brazil.

Not inviting John Terry because of his England retirement, but then inviting Foster despite his, was double standards. We looked like we missed John Terry, even if he is a *bleep*. We could have done with Ashley Cole too. Ruddy should really have been in that squad ahead of Foster.

Quite agree with canaryboy on this. Think that woy is a hypocritical football manager. with ideas of many moons ago

Should be sacked. cant pick a "team" to save his life.

Keep picking his fav., from when he was a league manager.

Now we have 2 more years of the rubbish we played in the world cup.

So going no where for 2 years and what after that ???

I think the FA have allowed him to 'build' for the euros, hence why he's still in the job despite most wanting him out.  They should really have put some expectations on this tournament for example- Qualification to knocks outs, or 4 points being a base criteria.

Foster shouldn't be anywhere near the England squad. He turned his back on his country once so therefore shouldn't be picked. Doesn't matter if it was under a different manager, once you say no that's it. Ruddy was better than foster and forster last season (more consistent than foster and playing in a better league than forster) so therefore should have gone to brazil. Hodgson just picks his favourites like he always does. It says it all when we had the England goalkeeping coach here last season and he couldn't get ruddy on the plane!

I would have like to think he tried, just think hodgson was blinkered by the fact we had just got relegated. Ruddy has never been one of hodgsons preferred players anyway. Look at the amount of times he could have played him for a half in the friendlies we've had. Instead he either keeps hart in for the entire 90 which is pointless or he gives a chance to someone that doesn't deserve it. I think he even gave a half to butland which is ridiculous.

Forster is at least on a level if not better than Ruddy, but agree he's better than Foster, and also agree that by turning his back once that should be it for him.

Well it was for Chris Sutton...

Didn't Chris Sutton say he's not happy playing for England B, as he thought he was better than that?!  That's quite a bit different than just saying you want to concentrate on your club career.

I still don't believe there's a Norwich conspiracy at play though,   ....although saying that Green did get injured while with England, and urm... Ruddy done his hand with England... and although he was with West Ham at the time, the targets were also set on Ashton who was crocked with England also.

This is massive! ....They're trying to kill our players, even after they've left!! ;-)
