Not a rumour, just saw that Liverpool are set to offer him to Aston Villa.

Would you have him at Norwich? Would he fit into our system and perhaps more importantly would he come to Norwich?

Would hope that we would learn from last season and do our homework on strikers - not just whether theyre any good, but whether we know what to do with them should we get them!

Not sure really, would take him on a season long loan, but do we want to give a 33 year old a two or three year deal? Could be over the hill.

I think that he is a good footballer who makes significant contributions to his team, but he seems to be waning in effectiveness as a striker. We have plenty of good and creative midfielders and what we need is a consistent clinical striker.

Mirror reporting that we're at the "head of the queue" to sign Lambert. Would love to have him here even if it is only on loan.

The fact that he isn't (to our knowledge),kind of suggests that this is purely paper talk rather than a genuine interest from Villa.

Whilst I think he could do a short term job for us, I'd rather we were spending our money on players with a bit more longevity and overall potential.

He only scored 2 goals in 25 games for Liverpool, but 18 of those were as sub and that's likely to be the sort of role he'd play for us.

I've heard he'll be signing for West Brom. Pleased if what I've heard is true as it'll respresent an expensive, ageing dodged bullet for us.

The moment has probably passed but I'm with Rob Butler. A proven goalscorer who was in the England squad a year ago. What is not to want?

I see no point in signing a player like this as a squad member, as  I would rather see Jerome in the role.

We should be signing players who are an upgrade on what we have, Lambert was a decent player a few seasons ago, and a bit in the Grant Holt mold, but I'd put Holt, at his peak above Lambert.

If his wages were somewhere around reasonable (whatever the average is for the Premier League, £30k?),and Liverpool give him to us for almost free, and he gets no longer than two years on his contract, and we manage to shift RVW in this window...... then I'd be happy enough with this signing.

If we do manage to shift RVW then this signing should be pretty much budget neutral signing which allows us to change things up a little up front whilst reserving the bulk of the transfer budget for strengthening priority areas like the defence and left wing? 

I said earlier in the season that I thought we could make do with what we have up front and concentrate on signing quality in defence and out wide, so I can hardly complain if we don't splash out £10m on some fancy foreign striker. 

I'd still prefer Lambert on a season long loan though, because if we're still in this division next summer we'll be able to afford to spend big again on a striker.

We are talking about a squad for this year which will keep us up.  A few goals is the margin for error.   If we had signed Jordan Rhodes or similar in January 13, we would only have needed 3 or 4 goals from a proven scorer to make the points to stay up.   Lambert still has more than enough to make a difference and even a fee and a three year contract are chickenfeed against what we lose if we go down.

I'd have him to bring on in the last 20 mins or so.. Proven goal scorer at every level, England international, yes he is ageing, norwich could be his last hurrah

He may be past his best but he could easily in my mind get 5/6 goals in a season still, which could be the difference between staying up and going down. Whether it's a loan or we sign him perminantly I'd be happy with this. The season before last at Southampton he scored 14 goals in the Premier League. He's a goalscorer and with the right service then I have no doubts that he could turn out to be a great signing. That all said though it looks almost certain though that he will join West Brom.

Pretty decent signing for WBA, hopefully Lambert will be able to pass on experience to the likes of Berahino, and played correctly can easy hit double figures in a season.

Don't think he'd have really worked in our current setup and style of play though, so have to agree with TGMD that I'm happy we missed out/didn't go in for him.
