Redmond and Fer to Saints

Lots of rumours going round that Redmond and Fer are being looked at by Southampton.

For me personally I would say anything between £20-25m for the pair and we will take it.

They have money to burn, we don't have to sell so anything less would be bad business.

Letting both go would be a real signal of our lack of intent. Fer maybe, I could accept that, but not Redmond too.

I really don't get after last season why most people are that bothered at losing Redmond, he was awful, yes he has pace but his end product was crap, scored one goal in 39 appearances, not many assists either and his decision making was so bad

He's young, he's still learning but he has bags of pace, and pace frightens the bejasus out of defenders, especially Championship ones. And he has looked very good in pre season so far.

If he can iron a few wrinkles out, he'll be a ten million pound player , no problem.

Given he's 19 years old and it was his first ever season in the Premier League, in a poor team, and he plays and stars for England U21s, and he's had an excellent pre season and is only going to get better, then yes, I'd be a little bothered if we lost him.

So hopefully the idea of Fer to QPR and us getting Karl Henry in part exchange is a load of rubbish. I'd actually be gutted if we sign him.

There is little doubt in my mind that Fer will go but like Morty I would be disappointed if Redmond is sold. I agree his game for a young lad last season stood still but that was hardly surprising under the 3 stooges now was it ?

Like others, I think Fer will move on if the price is right. I think there'd be riots if Redmond goes. Yes, he's still developing his skills, but he seems to have moved on in the pre-season and his opening goal against Nice was superbly taken and indicates what pace can do in the Championship next year. He is our future, IMO.

While I don't disagree that Redmond may still come of age, why is it we never have the 'He's still young' argument for players like Stirling or Barkley, when they're the same age?

Is it just that those guys are a bit more special? Or are we maybe over-egging Redmond's potential a little 'cos he's ours?

Those players have come of age in successful Premiership sides whereas young Redmond was playing in a team on the slide with a dour management team. Who would you rather be coached by....Martinez and Rodgers or Hughton ?

Redmond has the potential to be as good as Sterling, but awful coaching has stunted his potential. In the England U21 game where Roy Hodgson managed the team, we beat Scotland 6-0 and Redmond was the best player on the pitch – I have no doubt that he will be a full international one day. If we can hold on to him for another couple of years he will not only help us back to the Premier League, but will be worth double what he is now. Getting him off the left wing is important for a start...

If we let Redmond go my enthusiasm and belief for next season will take a big hit. I am ok with Ricky going as I don't think he fitted in with the plans, but once you start cutting into the bone with players like Redmond, losing him would undoubtedly be against the wishes of the manager and that is not a scenario I want to see. I agree. The club knows that they have to build a lot of bridges with the fans following relegation, and its a very fine line keeping the momentum of this going. I think most people assume Fer is likely to be off, but if Redmond follows, more than a few will be saying "Hang on a minute...."

And I think Neil will struggle to keep the promise that if players leave, we will replace them with better ones.

Considering before last year, Barkley was struggling to get game time at Leeds and Stirling went a bit s**t in the January after a decent start it shows that this could be Redmonds year.

I have a horrible feeling that Southampton will have identified him as one of their 'must-have' signings to revitalise their squad, and we're going to have to show some serious steel to scare them off.

Southampton don't have as much money as people think. They're carrying a lot of debt and other financial problems which means that only a portion of the money from player sales is available for new signings, and they need a lot of those!

Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale were also awful in their first seasons at their new clubs - and look how they developed. I think of Redmond in the same way as I think of Ronaldo. Clear potential, no end product. End of his first season Utd fans were calling for them to cut their losses. He got the right coaching and what a transformation. Redmond could be dynamite with the right influence

Anybody wanting either is going to have to pay top price, and IMO there's nobody out there willing to do that. There may be an end of window panic and silly bids, but I can't see that happening now.
