Qpr agree £8million fee for Fer

Personally I'll support any player who sticks around and shows that they want to play in Yellow and Green, and soon forget any player who doesn't..... if Fer wants to stay then I'll support him, if he doesn't want to stay then don't see the point in having him in the squad tonight. 

Do you not think that he (and a few others) are somewhere in between? He's happy to stay and fight for promotion but would rather be in the premiership where LvG can keep a close eye and he can earn more money?

I have no problems with that attitude as long as he is professional about it and plays as well as he can if we manage to keep him.

I want him to stay, but I'm not naive enough to think he is the answer to all our problems, and to say he is a complete player is ludicrous.

I think he will do well in the Championship as he will get more time on the ball, just like Johnson did on Saturday.  But his level is bottom 6 Prem at best.

We finished 12th in the Premier League with a centre midfield of Andew Crofts, Bradley Johnson, David Fox, and Johnny Howson - so pretty sure Fer could cope just fine in a mid-table side!

I suppose the real thing that will determine whether he goes or stays is if he wants to. If he wants to stay, he probably will, unless we're offered mega-money or a big team comes in for him. If he wants to go we'll probably let him and take the cash. Think its all in Leroy's hands, as opposed to RvW, who seemingly wanted to stay but was offloaded pretty quickly. I hope he stays

I think he's fine whichever way it turns. I worry that we think £8m from QPR is the "mega money" you talk about. I'd rather he stayed if it's him or £8m from QPR.

If Fer is happy enough to stay for this season, I'd be inclined to turn down the suggested £8m offer from QPR, and as has been suggested further up this thread, see how things are going in January.

His value will not have decreased by then.

For me, what he did do was good, he just needed to do it more often, as opposed to someone like BJ, who tried very hard, but was always let down by the limitiations of his game

Here is the full response from Neil Adams on Fer:

“I’ve seen the speculation, I’ve seen stuff being confirmed on some stations on TV and it hasn’t, Leroy trained with us today, he’s in the squad for tomorrow and that’s where we are with that,” Adams said of Fer’s situation.

“Now I understand with football things can change at the drop of a hat but it’s disappointing to see, in some respects, what has been written and broadcast over the weekend because as of yet there’s no news to give you on Leroy Fer, he’s trained this morning with us.

“He’s a top quality player. I think he was delighted as well with the response from the crowd singing about (the World Cup in) Brazil during the game, and rightly so. He performed particularly well for himself out there.

“The 20 minutes or 25 minutes, whatever it was he had, he showed why he went to Brazil in the summer, he was excellent and as I said after the game, you don’t want to lose players like that.”

I think he's a quality player, top quality.  But i don't think he'll be motivated staying here, he seemed to have switched off a few times last season.  I just can't see how, no matter how much i want him to stay, he's going to be up for a championship season here.  But i'm sure he could walk it, become an absolute stand out player at this level and have much better clubs come looking for him than if he went to QPR.  Who knows, it's possible that being one of the top dogs in this division may lead him to become more fulfilled than stuck in that *censored* *censored* *censored* london *censored* club.  

Point i was making however, was, like Paul just pointed out - you can't argue that he was part of a squad that came 18th.  No matter how good we think/know he is... He hasn't actually done it here.  If he is the class that i think he is, then he alone should have made a massive difference to us over the course of a season.. And he didn't.  He has the ability, we think, to be this complete midfielder - But where was it?

Does that answer your question?! Not sure if it does directly or not, but it's the only way i can describe how i feel about the guy personally.

The fact that he doesn't know when we're playing suggests to me a mystery illness/niggle will present itself by tomorrow... i hope i'm wrong, but i'm actually chuckling as i write this.

I think that much of the criticism on here is massively unfair. (Oh my! What a novelty that is).

No account taken of the facts that he is a young player learning his trade who was playing abroad for the first time in a struggling and demoralised side.   When you consider how many of Fer's contemporary signings making their debut failed completely last season e.g. how many at Tottenham, Osvaldo at Saints, Cornelius at Cardiff etc,.  What is remarkable about Fer is how well he did not how badly.

He struggled to adapt to the pace of the Prem.  Who doesn't coming from a less physical league?   It was a steep learning curve.   he might have done better but he certainly could have done a lot worse.  As I said, many others did.   So he wasn't Yaya.  He did develop and he did struggle.  It was a reasonable season but not the poor one that is being suggested.
