As away games go not the most intimidating.

I'll be interested to see the formation and shape away from home...can't see Hoolahoop and Redmond starting together, and I think AN will be keen to set up with players that give us a little more defensive cover in wider areas.  I would love to see Toffolo start and Brady move further forward, but I suspect that is unlikely.  Camjum up front I hope - very likely on his own.

The.   team I would like to see (but won't!) would be

Ruddy

Martin.  Bassong.  RyBen.   Toffolo

   Howson.  Tettey    Dorrans

Redmond.                           Brady

              Cam jam

(Puts tin hat on!)

After their dreadful performance last week, it won't take much to make the crowd turn. We need a strong start and ideally nick an early goal. If we're ever going to have a good shot of winning on the road, this is it.

Ruddy

Whitts  Martin Bassong Olsson (Toffolo if unfit)

Howson Tettey Dorrans Brady

               Wes

          Jerome

Team I'd personally play:

Ruddy
Wisdom R.Bennett Bassong Brady
Redmond Dorrans Howson Tettey Johnson
Jerome
I think however the team that will play will be that same team but with Whittaker and Martin ahead of Wisdom and Bennett. Possibly Grabban ahead of Jerome too. This is certainly a winnable game, particularly after Sunderland's performance against Leicester, and as SC says the crowd will be quick to turn on them should they start slowly. I honestly don't know what to predict for this game, it could go either way. I'll play it relatively safe though and say 1-1, with Howson scoring our goal.

surely after the impact they had last week Jerome and Redmond have got to come into the starting lineup, particularly Redmond with his pace away from home on the counter, I'd like to see us go two up top, but can't see it happening, I'd guess the lineup will be something like

Ruddy
Whittaker Martin Bassong Brady
Tettey Howson
Redmond Hoolahan Johnson
Jerome
I wouldn't be opposed to starting Toffolo and moving Brady up to the left flank though

I would say particularly Jerome as he has consistently delivered for us. Redmond hasn't proved that consistency yet so I would still hold him back as an impact sub.

That Leicester result is bad news for us. Whilst it might create a feeling of despondency, its more likely to make them buckle down today. You could say the same about us I suppose, we made mistakes, but were essentially robbed. Jose Mourinho would create a siege mentality on the back of that, we have the opportunity to build something mentally after last week.

I know very little about Sunderland these days, whether they have fast defenders or not. I think playing both Hoolahan and Redmond is quite the risk. I imagine he'll see Wes as one for home games where we dominate possession, and whereas neither of them are the strongest defensively, Redmond perhaps offers the greater threat on the counter, and certainly from distance, so I imagine he'll get the nod, with Wes as an option from the bench if we need to change the game.

Id guess:

----------------Ruddy

Whittaker Martin Bassong Brady

----------Tettey Johnson

Redmond Howson Dorrans

-------------Jerome

Redmond and Hoolohan both start then....shows how much I know!

pleased to see both Redmond and Cam in from the start.  Alex isn't going there to park the bus!  Obvious too that the players will know that if you don't perform one week you won't be playing next - both Johnson and Grabban were poor last time out and both get to watch today.

So who will play on the left.  Hoolohan?

Pretty happy with that lineup tbh.

traffic on the way has been awful but lets hope that the game makes up for it!

I think it will be Howson in the middle with Tettey, Dorrans on the left, Redders on the right, but I could be completely wrong on all of those

Have to say that's more attacking than I would've thought. I think it'll be Howson on the left personally in a 4-4-1-1 formation with Hoolahan in behind Jerome. Good to see both Redmond and Jerome in from the start as well. I personally wouldn't have gone quite as attacking as that, I would've dropped Hoolahan and started with Johnson on the left, Howson, Dorrans and Tettey in the middle and Redmond on the right, with Jerome up top. Be very interesting to see how successful this formation is away from home, and I certainly hope it works.

I was thinking our POTS was unlucky to be dropped on the back of one mediocre performance but I suppose you're right that it will keep the players on their toes to know that the manager has a ruthless streak.

Crazy how players like Vadis and Ricky aren't even close to making the bench.
