It's going to be a nervy last 10
Have to agree there DM. But having said that it may be a symptom of how much we have improved that some of us feel we can go and be ambitious away from home. Not a criticism of the performance at all but just a feeling that we could have won yesterday. Its strange how we all see things differently. Now dont get me wrong, I was delighted by the effort put in and the end result, but.....I really didnt think we played as well as we can, and at times we made Liverpool look good as I thought we surrendered the midfield in the second half.
The Liverpool defence didnt look solid and I am not convinced we tested them enough, they were pretty static at times.
So pleased for Russell Martin, sure he made an error, but more than made up for it with an exquisite touch for his goal, and what a story!
Ruddy is back to his best, thought his positioning all afternoon was exceptional.
Surprised no one has mentioned Bassong, as I thought he was immense and put in one of his best performances in a yellow shirt.
Maybe my expectations are unrealistic or i am wanting us to run before we can walk, but I genuinely feel we could have won that game, had we taken the game to Liverpool a little more.
Not sure about this - I think where Tettey was when Coutinho was coming into the box, Tettey would have had a good chance of cutting out any ball across played by Coutinho. Whereas if Tettey had committed himself across to stop Couthinho, a ball across would actually have been easier and the receiving player would've had a total open goal. And of course Tettey had to make the decision instantly rather than time to think about it.I can see why he's done it, in theory it sounds a good plan to focus on cutting out the pass and have faith in your keeper to stop the shot. But coutinho had basically the entire half to himself, if he wanted to square it he wouldve been able to whether Tettey was there or not. So he might as well go help ruddy and at least try to put him off the shot.
But it was nice that for a change it was our goalie have the game of their lives rather than the opposition!
