Once again more points dropped at home, and once again it's not good enough. Fair play to Brighton who played some nice football at times, and took their chances when they got them. But on the whole we were poor today. And despite the fact that it finished 3-3, that first half was one of the most boring I have ever endured.

Player Ratings

Ruddy - 6. Can't be blamed for any of the goals, but didn't really have a significant save to make.
Martin - 8. Probably our best player. And scored one of the best goals I've seen at Carrow Road (that wasn't scored by Luis Suarez). Could've done better for LuaLua's goal but overall was excellent.
Turner - 7. Pretty solid as per usual. Won everything in the air and just in general defended well.
Hooiveld - 7. I was more impressed him than I have been. He won a lot in the air, and read the play really well. But he did obviously give the penalty away.
Olsson - 6. Got some good balls into the box particularly in the first half, but was arguably at fault for Brighton's first and didn't go forward enough in the second half for me.
Redmond - 6. Wasn't as dangerous as usual for me, but did well for Howson's goal. Had a decent effort saved by Stockdale as well.
Howson - 7. Good passer of the ball and obviously scored our first goal. Worked very hard off the ball as well but he did sometimes push to far up the pitch.
Tettey - 6. Didn't think he had his best game. I like the fact he usually plays it simple, and made some good challenges. But his shooting is truly atrocious at times, and he lost the ball on a couple of occasions.
Johnson - 5. Did make a few good tackles. But also made some stupid decisions, and in the end it was no surprise he got sent off. Also wasted a great opportunity at 2-1 when we had 3 on 1 and he went for goal himself rather than squaring it to Grabban.
Jerome - 5. Worked hard off the ball but wasn't really involved in the game at all.
Grabban - 4. Again, worked hard but ultimately no end product. Gave the ball away a number of times and wasn't really involved to heavily.

Brighton's first goal was once again poorly defended. No-one got close enough Colunga to stop the cross, and Olsson should've done better at dealing with the ball in rather than let Bruno tower above him. That said though the cross did take a deflection. The second goal was awful. LuaLua was given a ridiculous amount of time to shift the ball onto his stronger side and place it into the far corner. Russell Martin should've got tighter to him and stopped the shot. Then obviously there's the penalty, which I couldn't see clearly but there weren't too many complaints, which suggests that it was the right decision. For Brighton I thought LuaLua was excellent. Really direct and fast, and obviously scored a crucial goal. Also thought Rohan Ince was very good on the ball. Our first goal was well worked. Redmond did well down the right hand side and a good pull-back for Howson to score. Stockdale perhaps could've done a bit better though. Russell Martin's goal was fantastic, and as I said one of the best goals I've seen at Carrow Road. Caught it absolutely perfectly, and when that went in I really thought we'd go onto a comfortable win. Hooper also took his goal very well, and I don't really know what more he can do to start a game.

The first half was really slow, and really quite boring, and you'd never have guessed that there would be 6 goals by the end of the game. The second half was much more entertaining. Much more open and a lot quicker, and in we had a spell when we were 2-1 up where we were playing well. It's just so frustrating that we yet again had chances but couldn't take them. Redmond had a shot well saved by Stockdale, Grabban went through on goal but was denied. The best chance though fell to Johnson, who got the ball off them and we were 3 on 1 with their defence. If Johnson had squared that to Grabban who was in a much better position then we stood a much better chance of making it 3-1 and settling the game. But Johnson stupidly went for goal from 25 yards out, and although it produced a good save from Stockdale it was a waste really of a really good opportunity. Brighton didn't really have a proper chance apart from their goals.

Adams got it wrong again today, and now I think he needs to go. The starting team was wrong again. I really don't know why Cuellar was dropped. He impressed me against Nottingham Forest and I was really surprised that he didn't start. I also don't know why Adams keeps persisting with Grabban, who has been useless for a while now, and Hooper was obviously the better option, as proved when he came on. And Johnson in left midfield? No idea why anyone would think that was a good idea. Adams also got the substitutions wrong again. At 2-1 up we were pushing too far forward and Brighton were hitting easily on the counter. At that point in my opinion we needed to revert 4-2-3-1, bringing Murphy on for Johnson, and O'Neil for Grabban, however we didn't change a thing, and in the end Brighton went 3-2 up because of it. Josh Murphy has consistantly proved that off the bench he can be very dangerous, so why he wasn't used is a mystery to me.

I really like Adams as a person. Seems like a nice guy and clearly is Norwich through and through, but unfortunately he has to go now. On the whole today was pretty poor, and to concede 3 goals at home to a team that have struggled to put the ball in the net all season is ridiculous.

He won't go yet though, simply because Phelan doesn't start to 'assist' him until later this week. And I really hope that Adams can turn it round for the club and his own sake, but if it was down to me, I personally would sack him.

That is a very, very generous mark for Martin. Whittaker would never have got an 8 for that performance - wonder goal or not.

Gazza - agreed. But different management could get better results from this squad. It's such a shame we've reached this situation where NA can't/won't be sacked immediately because too many dropped points will have gone by before we act. A new manager installed right now could get us promoted; NA won't.

Din - spot on. I'd only say that perhaps Johnson didn't pass to Grabban because he shares our opinion of him!

Decent report there Din. Not sure that any one deserved more than a 7 yesterday. The second goal was awful defending.

Totally agree about pushing to high after going 2 - 1 up. Left ourselves exposed and Brighton took advantage.

Bradley Johnson, left midfield of a diamond formation! What a joke of a manager we have!

Defensively poor,   creatively limited, midfield excluding two proven goalscorers in this league from the game,  far too many sideways passes - hard to see many 7s let alone an 8

Ruddy 6    - blame free from the goals

Martin 6    - better as rb for us - stonking goal prevents it being a 5.   stand off for second goal typifies defensive problems

Turner 5    - woeful in the first half,  significantly better in the second

Hooiveld 6 - would have been a 7 but for the penalty; best defender on the day

Olsson 5    - seems clueless at defending,  no commitment for the opening goal,  positionally poor and attacking efforts consistently poor (not an attacking midfield option - lacks the quality for that role)

Tettey 6     -  Too much sideways;  secure with the ball yes, creative with the ball,  disrupted brightons play well which is his key strength, winning the ball back more than any other city player.  Harsh on shooting - can only remember a couple - others had as many poor shots off target too.

Howson 6  - Probably our best midfielder and the only one to offer forward movement, as seen with the goal;  not unreasonable to expect more - want him demanding the ball as wes does;  he has that level of talent yet..  Still far too much sideways.  He has to learn to tackle - did he win one today? - and his mexican stand off as he watched them equalise was embarrassing.

BJ          5 - Great spirit but his defensive work was poor (just one successful tackle as the defensive lynch pin???) ,  his red card deserved, his first half passing in particular back to his worst and too much sideways.   Shocking decision to shoot from outside box when we were 3v1 to put us 3-1 up cost us the win.  That it was his one shot on target doesnt matter - it was the only place he could put it,  making a save likely and two strikers were far better placed to score.

Redmond 7 - my motm.   quieter - but more effective;   great number of passes creating chances,   quality crosses and better shooting  choices and on target.

Jerome   5 - got in positions more than grabban - but no efforts on target disappointing.  partnership with grabban simply non existant

Grabban 5 - just not involved - limited defensive work, safe with the ball - movement esp disappointing given his pace.   Low on confidence and needs a rest to come back strong.

Hooper - 7  Involved more in his time on pitch than grabban and smart finish.

Lafferty   6  Not have a huge impact.

Management team 4 - wrong formation,  stodgy midfield,  poor tactics,  slow to make changes (Brighton did build up top their equaliser) and if going 3 at back then a full back is the man to remove - not the best performing defender on the day.

Yeah, you're probably right. I think I was just getting carried away with his goal and it being his 200th game and all that. I did think he was our best though.

Perhaps yeah :D

I keep watching their second goal and keep expecting Howson to close down the man. I just cannot see any reason why he allowed him to cut inside. It's infuriating. They never even looked like scoring and then they do that from nothing.

Where do you keep watching the goals? I somehow contrived to miss most of them

Our defending was absolutely shocking for the first goal. Watched it several times, can anybody confirm that the clip when paused at 0.16 and then played again appears to show a Norwich player not tracking back with his man? Who went on to score?

I'm not sure what happened for their second goal, but if that hasn't deflected then surely Ruddy should have stopped that? Was his positioning off? Howson shouldn't have been turned that easy anyway. Penalty was unfortunate, left a trailing leg, not going to be too critical of Hooiveld there.

Hooper has just shown why he should have spent the last few weeks on the pitch, not on the bench. He may not contribute a great deal to our overall game but give him a chance and he'll bury it, which is more than Grabban is doing at the moment (getting a chance and fluffing it).

Yep - it was Redmond who didn't track his man. The 2nd went directly beneath Ruddy's arms as far as I can tell. I love Ruddy but (since his injury?) I think he's got a little too big, looks a little out of condition and consequently is slightly less agile in getting down than he used to be.

Ruddy is at times capable of resembling a wet piece of tissue paper. I think he should be the best goalkeeper in the league, but at times Im left wondering why the opposition finds it so easy to score against the run of play or with a sucker punch, and their keeper always seems to be having a blinder

Personally I thought Hooiveld had a stinker, no pace and turns like an oil tanker

First thing I said to my mate after their second goal was " do you think Ruddy should have got that?"

Howson has never been good at defending imo.  In this incident he was firmly planted both feet on the ground - an attacker would see that, say thank you very much and cut to the side and shoot, which is exactly what happened.    Whatever happened to being on your toes to be ready to move in either direction?

Our defending generally is atrocious.   The first goal was like comedy hour with Turner on the right touch line and no one picking up the runner on the right.   Hooiveld was daft giving that penalty away too.

this has been the level of our defending all season,   even in our good early start.

That we have gone a quarter of a season without even starting to address is a fundamental concern.

When my lads were young I helped run their junior teams. Just a willing Dad helping out with no coaching except the obvious. And in those days, there were lots of lads who wanted to play defence. They probably liked the ball in front of them and being able to let the attackers make their minds up for them as to where to move to on the pitch.

Do any of you lads have youngsters who play and do they want to play defence? Because we seem to be short on class goalkeepers and defenders in this country.

Iv got three boys (3, 21 months and 5 months). I expect them all to play for England. I will be disowning them if they dont!

Middle one showing natural instincts to be a keeper I reckon. Not sure about the oldest. Youngest needs to improve on his kicking...
