Agree, but I don't hold out much hope. We're not just relying on one team playing badly, but two.possibly, I guess everyone is gonna be on there phones hoping for good news from the sunderland game, if we get out of the game and still have a chance then great, but no matter what if we have to go down we need to go down fighting
Yup. That was a clear problem. And with no Rashford and the late bonus of no Martial you might have thought that would encourage us to be a bit braver against Utd but we weren't really.Jerome struggle on saturday but I feel part of that is that he was often isolated, we need Howson pushing on more from midfield and making sure that Redmond, Wes and Brady get themselves into the box as often as possible, can't expect the front man to do it all alone, no time to worry about conceding too many goals, need to just be sure that we're at least getting ourselves on the scoresheet now, its truly now or never
Thing is we needed players to get close to Jerome and you can't expect Howson to do that when Brady, Wes and Redmond struggled to between them.Yup. That was a clear problem. I agree. It's becoming increasingly obvious and more of a problem that Wes doesn't have the legs to get there. Can't fault his work rate but he doesn't get to things quick enough. Can only assume Naismith was meant to be the answer.Thing is we needed players to get close to Jerome and you can't expect Howson to do that when Brady, Wes and Redmond struggled to between them.
Saying that, and I can only presume it's under instruction - I tend to find in a lot of our attacks O'Neil is further forwards and Howson is sitting back. I don't understand it, as Howson is a much better attacking influence than Gary!!
I'm not sure. Howson's an intelligent player and you could probably say he is most likely of our midfield 4 to identify danger so perhaps he naturally sits back a bit, O'Neil gets forward and then Howson realises he can't afford to push as well in case of a counter?Good point hoggy about howson/oneil; there is certainly something in that, , it is noticeable that we perform best when howson is ahead of oneil particularly driving forward with the ball at his feet, and have a worse performance when he is deeper. So why wouldnt we ensure that is always happening?
What I am not sure about is why there is a difference? Is it managers choice, is it that we are pinned in more so howson is unable to get forward, or there is a fear of the impact of losing so howson choses to sit deeper? (eg on saturday) or is it when he is having an off game? All 4 scenarios have occurred during the run of games with oneil.
Dorrans certainly wont bring that dymanic ball carrying element through the middle so will be something we miss tonight.
Hoolahan, Naismith and Mbokani worked very well together in that 4-5 defeat to Liverpool, perhaps trying to replicate that?so Bennett in for Bassong, Dorrans in for Howson, Naismith in for Brady and Mbokani in for Jerome, does this mean Wes or Nais on the left?
