I think we were just undone by a better side. One of the better teams I've seen this season in fact. Stone wall penalty, decent finishes for the 2nd and 3rd (albeit too much space given on both). Gave us very little time on the ball. We won't play teams as good as that every week. We go again.

we started the better side so dont think we were that poor,   but then had a poor 10 mins into half time when we lost the game.    Great ball for the pen that was rightly given even if kane leaving his feet down always frustrates me. Once that went in we seemed to shrink a little as their confidence grew and the game was almost immediately lost. Spurs dominated as much as Everton had here,  but I saw the difference as their good play rather than us having a bad game and wilting embarrasingly as we did in the first half v the toffees.

The second goal was the killer;  We over committed CM and FBs when we didnt need to and that ill discipline just before half time gave kane the space to finish well - a good attacking goal yes but created as much by us leaving the CBs 2 v 3 as their incisive play

We do have a  recurring problem of our FBs over committing too far forward and not being prepared to cover their own arses;  its ok if they check if either mulumbu or Tetty are sitting deep but not when both are so far forward;  at least one of the FBs has to sit back to cover those breaks;   had martin or olsson done so the space does not become as available and the chance for kane to score becomes so much more difficult.    Thats what better quality defenders do for you; they have the discipline  read the whole game and remember they are defenders first;  Wisdom balances that better,  jarvis in for olsson and brady back covers the left flank.

Kane also exposed bennett, in particular, and sebs weaknesses and showed why we need such an overhaul at the back.

We did lack quality but wont face a good side playing well that often and points from these type of away trips are bonuses, not core to staying up;   unlike the next two home games where a 4pt minimum us needed right now.

Positives? Rudd played well and made plenty of good stops after being over exposed by the back line;   Agree with the comment that VOO looks a better option than howson in the middle,  redmond held on to the ball with maturity and responsibility (without being that creative) to give the back 4  a break,  CJ is the best defender up top we have - and while in desperate need of improvement in Jan the Bennett/Bassong is the best CB partnership we have right now.
