First away trip, yay! Probably won't do as many this season, most are logistically ridiculous. And club cabbage have properly whacked their prices up too! Train not an option, I think there are strikes on Saturday!

Players from the cup game who should be in contention for a start / bench :- Hanley should be back, Get Gibson back on the bench. Hopefully Mcallum should be fit. Onel and Sinani, probably bench. Tomkinson and Gibbs, bench. Sara and Nunez, both looking at a start, possibly Nunez more than Sara. Hugill can definitely tale a seat on the bench, for me. Sargent, would like to see a start from him, at this level, to make a proper judgement, though still not entirely sure what he is meant to be...

I'm going but driving. Always do. I usually stop at the Humber Bridge for a bacon roll, coffee and stroll along the bridge. Lovely scenic spot. When reaching Hull, I park in a car park around a 15 minute walk from the ground. On the drive back, a quick beer (just one for me: designated driver) and burger at Wetherspoons in Boston. Would never get me on a Club Cabbage with the amount of smelly drunk weirdos you have to deal with!!!

For Werder he was often a central striker, a role he has never really played for us. He was never prolific but he showed some good form in that role often being the one who created space for others to score.

A half that sums up our season so far. Start fairly brightly without really making their goalkeeper work too hard, have a lot of possession and have quite comfortable control, but then go and present the opposition a chance on a plate and we concede from their only shot on target of the game. What a shambles of a goal to concede as well, Aarons has arguably been our best player over the last 2 games but I don't know what he was thinking there.

That fluidity just isn't there in our attacking play. Rashica yet again is really frustrating me, looks a shadow of the player we know he can be. Him, Dowell and Cantwell don't seem to have any understanding with each other. Nunez has probably been our best player, he looks very tidy, but he's really the only one.

I also think we definitely need to get another left back in while McCallum and Dimi are out. We all know Sorenson is very capable there but it really does upset the balance of the team having a right footed midfielder at left back.

Come on lads, it feels like sooner or later surely it'll click for us in the final 3rd, but based on what we've seen in the 2 and a half games so far I can't see us getting anything here. Hope I'm wrong.

Obviously we're much farther on than when you posted Din, and I can't help feeling that your next post might well be considerably different. Frankly our performance defies description and changes must be made. How dare management and players put on a performance like that against a side that finished 18th last season. Not one of them deserve the shirt. This is not a club I can continue to show interest in, when they obviously don't want to give any sort of performance back to the supporters.

Pukki is the man, it would be suicidal to drop or sell him. Those that think that, most likely think we have a super management team.

A side that has signed ten new players and counting since then, the vast majority of whom are full Internationals. Last season is last season. Teams change.

Yup, shocking. So far away from being good enough.

So far we've come up against the sides who last season finished 18th and 19th in the Championship and another who were in League One, and have only taken 1 point. Judging from what we saw in those games I'd be amazed if any of the teams we have played finish above about 14th, none of them have been particularly good, but we've consistently gifted goals away and then looked completely toothless at the other end.

Nunez is a player. Absolute banger of a free kick and just oozes class whenever he has the ball. So many though just look nowhere near the level they should be at. Some of Smith's decisions are just plain odd as well. Why wasn't Sinani bought on today? He played great in the week and scored. How are Sargent, Hernandez and Ramsey all getting on the pitch ahead of him? What possible evidence could there be that any of them would be better than Sinani? Hugill not even making the squad as well. I know we only have a limited number of subs but you have to feel for him. Sargent consistently looks completely out of his depth whenever he steps on the pitch and yet Hugill can't get in ahead of him. I'm not saying Sinani or Hugill would've been the answer today but I just can't understand the logic from Smith.

Huddersfield on Tuesday already feels absolutely massive. We really need to see a convincing performance for a full 90 minutes, anything less isn't acceptable. I'm still not quite in the Smith Out camp yet, but if he was sacked tomorrow I really wouldn't be upset. I'd still give him a few more games, I mean we currently have the same amount of points we had after 3 games in Farke's first promotion season, so we know a lot can change. We need to see a drastic improvement though, starting on Tuesday. If we don't win that then the writing really will be on the wall for Smith.

I think he's so invested in Pukki that he doesn't want to put focus on anyone else scoring.

I'm confused...............I'm aware of 4 1st team signings this summer. Sara, Nunez, Hayden, Ramsey. Perhaps you'd be kind and advise me of the other 6 and counting. Last season is of course last season, shame the performances haven't improved, and yes, teams do change but the majority of NCFC is the same other than the loan players who returned to their parent clubs.o_O

Right.

Brace yourself, I have a lot to unload (ooerrr)

There is a bigger problem in play here, than just today. Today is just a carbon copy of so many of our games over the last year. We started brightly, created a bit, without actually creating much of value, ridiculously shot ourselves in the foot, then huffed and puffed a bit more, without really achieving much. I have watched us do this three times this week, one draw, one flukey win on penalties, then today. In reality I have been watching almost exactly the same game for about a year now.

I'm going to trace the origins of this right back to Emi Buendia. We formulated a style of play, with him, and we have been desperately trying to recreate it, without him, ever since. Emi was perhaps the best player I have ever seen for us, he made things tick, he created, he got the best out of average players around him like Cantwell and Pukki (more on this later) and he defined our style of play. What has become apparent, ridiculously so, over recent times is that we are tragically predictable.

Today I watched the ball played to Aarons, who brought it upfield, then checked, then passed inside to a midfielder, who passed to another midfielder (in the meantime the entire opposition has moved into defensive positions) we have then fannied around outside the box, passing it about, desperately looking for Pukki, who did fuck all with it. Rinse and repeat. And I really don't know what, or why they are doing what they are doing. If Max gets to the byline and cuts back, what makes chances is players bursting, centrally, into the box - not happening. If a central midfielder is driving into the box, and looking for Pukki, theres a chance - not happening. If Pukki receives the ball centrally, shields it and brings a midfield runner into play, things happen - not happening.

We are just dicking about, desperately hoping Pukki creates some magic (more on that later) and that is just not happening.

We are basically still trying to play the same way we did when Emi was feeding Pukki balls, without him still being there. And for the life of me I can't work out why!!

On paper we actually have a decent squad, and before this season I, like most folk, saw that we needed fresh faces in midfield, which we have done, and I have high hopes for them working out. But I am gonna just come out and say it, we need to get shot of Pukki. I genuinely think his style of play is holding us back, or perhaps the system he is employed in is holding us back as a team. Lets face facts, he has been average his entire career, and it was Emi that brought out the best in him, and as well as he did last season, in the Prem, in a poor team (to some respects that league suits his game better, playing on the shoulder of defenders, mainly because of how teams set up against us, Prem they laugh at us and are happy to defend deep, Championship they see us as a much bigger threat and know they have to mark him out of the game). I'm suddenly very worried who is going to score our goals. Idah seems injury prone, Hugill is a poundshop Holt, and doesn't suit our style either. I do wonder if the injury to Sorenson today could push us towards a 3-5-2 with maybe Sargent up front with Pukki? But for the love of God, please do something different, it must be so easy for opposition teams to work us out.

Is Dean Smith the man? Not sure? Should we sack him, as Twitter seems to be baying for? Don't be daft.

Big week coming up. 6 points could make a massive difference to everybody.

Correct, but the most bizarre thing is that both Farke and Smith were stuck in the same rabbit hole.
Factor in to, that Pukki wants to move away, probably his last big move, that's got to affect his game. We've seen it many times when players are refused a move their form dips.

It's a long season and the transfer window has another couple of weeks to run, it just looks like Smith is barking up the wrong tree.

It feels, very much, that we are still haunted by the ghost of Emi Buendia. Nunez looks an exciting player, and I have high hopes for him, but he isn't Emi. We need to adapt, and move on.
