Ooh, tough. Could really do with a result here, but won't be troubling Bet 365 with any of my money.

#NCFC DS in at Colney. 'We are going to have to assess a few today. A few knocks and bruises. 'Isaac and Dimi first starts in a long while.'

Smith reiterating that he was pleased with their counter attacking efforts at Sheffield United. #NCFC had five three versus two situations and should have won the game. Believes the final 20 minutes became a 'basketball match'.

Kieran Dowell was completing some bike work at Colney yesterday - although is struggling to talk. They will assess him today.

DS: "Watching the game back, there's a few occasions where we had an overload - 3v2, 5v4 and it was the final ball that let us down."

Smith frustrated that both goals came from throw ins. Didn't feel his side got set up quick enough or well enough. He feels there are little details that need to be worked on when defending those moments.

Is dropping out of the top six a concern? 'Not at all. I didn't believe we would go 20 points clear when we won those games on the bounce. We have played a lot of games without a left back and defensive midfielder.'

Smith says there is 'no entitlement or right' for #NCFC to be towards the top of the division. That has to come through hard work.

Sam McCallum has returned to training. Smith says he could be involved tomorrow if he impresses today. He has ticked all the boxes in terms of the performance team's assessment. A big boost. (I had actually totally forgotten we had him!!)

Hmm ... not a comment to get many of his detractors onside. After watching the highlights of Burnley's win at Sunderland, getting anything out of this games is going to be a tough ask.

Makes you wonder though if there is a bit of entitlement in the camp? I think when the season started a lot of us, maybe players too, presumed that we had more than enough to romp this league. Yes we may have talented players, but you need to graft for every single point in this league.

I like what I've seen from Hayden, it's what we need and his presence will help the players around him.
You'll all be bored with hearing me say it but we need two Haydens, to cover injury and suspension.
We can then get our creative players producing properly being focused on their own jobs.
This needs to be done BEFORE the summer, it's not good enough to buy a crocked player in late August and expect to survive in the Premier League or excel in the Chumps.

Could be ... but there are supporters out there who do think that way and will start chuntering on about 'no ambition' etc etc. All that stuff does little to improve the situation ... unless they do sack Smith, which at the moment I think unlikely.

Average age of the back four must be pretty low

I think it's interesting. That midfield is the one people have been asking for, Tomkinson is highly rated, and I am a huge fan of Mcallum.

Well.

I will go against the Twitter grain most likely here. Obviously if you take that game in the context of the run we are on, it is just another defeat. But under better overall circumstances, we could have just about deserved a point, it it weren't for a flailing Grant Hanley arm, and also Pukki fluffing his lines.

Burnley play good possession football now, and we had to weather a storm first half, but to be honest, Gunn was actually rarely troubled. Second half much better, but really the (maybe unlucky) penalty took the wind out of our sails. Subs changed the game a bit (though it is starting to feel like Dean uses basically exactly the same formula every game) and we maybe could have stolen a point.

I feel a bit sorry for Dean, as we really have been unlucky with injuries, especially defensively, turns out Gibson is injured now, and Giannoulis has cracked a rib, but you have to say the clock is ticking for him now, lose Saturday and it could well be curtains.

I think the players done well last night. There was passion and commitment. Cantwell and Sargent ran their arses off. I'm not going to complain. Burnley are a top side. I was expecting a thrashing, especially during that first half. They were relentless in attack. I think we can build on this team. Give the youngsters a chance. Maybe another year in the championship is what we need to build on what we have. I feel for Smith because he has no stand out players he can turn too. He is going through the same run of luck Farke had with injuries. No matter what happens, sacking him, keeping him, it is going to take time for these players to gel together. I don't see any manager coming in performing miracles. Dyche, O'Neil, will have the same issues. I say stick with this team. McLean will be back soon!!!! (Oh, no!).

I don't know what to say. The overall performance was a bit better but it wasn't good. Injuries have played their part but it is all looking so stale and predictable. The game could be up for Deano 'n' Shakey if we don't get a win (or even a decent point) against Stoke and QPR.

I think only two wins will save him. But let's not forget, Farke was sacked after a win...

One of the problems is we were spoilt with Farke and I can’t help but constantly compare us now against how we were. We just look so poor at the moment, we either go long to no one in particular or keep the ball against the weaker teams but can’t break them down.
