No idea what kind of team he's going to put out, but i doubt he could care less whether we lose or not. I know losing is a bad habit to get in but Sunderland showed that you can have a great run in the cup and it takes a hit on your league campaign, that we really can't afford to do.

No idea either frankly Suffolk, but I wouldn't mind a look at the fringe players, as I think there are positions up for grabs in the first team right now.

I think we have enough of a squad to put a decent team out, without impacting on the league.

Am going to this, not looking forward to the journey though!

Imagine Everton will be taking this one seriously and wouldn't be surprised to see us mix it up again. Yeah, not confident here.

The important league game at the weekend will probably influence the selection more than anything else. And as said, some fringe guys must be out to impress.

AN may take the view that this game gets the stronger team and experiments more vs Citeh knowing we will get tonked regardless at the weekend,  more illustrious managers have done this in the past in similar circumstances.  Just putting it out there....

Personally, I would be happy with that. How many of us would take relegation but the Capital One Cup in the Trophy room?

I would.

How often do Norwich win a cup compared to getting relegated/promoted?

I'd go with something like, but start Grabban instead of Jerome.

I doubt he's part of the solution but he should get the opportunity to state his case.

Another possibility is playing Wisdom at centre back alongside Bennett with Whittaker at right back, see what he looks like in that position (Wisdom claims that's his best position).

Tough one. If it weren't for the need to expand Carrow Road I'd say yes.

But if you look at the number of teams of our size who currently have plans to take their capacity above 30,000 then I fear us being left behind over the next decade if we can't expand Carrow Road. Swansea to 33000, West Brom to 30000+, Leicester to 42000, I think Stoke plan expansion too, Southampton already have 32000.

We'll only be able to pay for that after a 3 or 4 year run in this league.

It would certainly soften the blow of relegation.

But it would mean playing European football in the Championship where your primary focus needs to be getting out of the league, I'd enjoy going to watch Norwich in some Eastern European backwater but it didn't do Birmingham or Wigan any favours.

more than anything we need to find the best combination for the back 4 - it has to be a viable permanent (well until Jan and hopefully some strengthening) solution.

I am still not sure that we have a better back 4 than Whits, Martin, Bassong and Brady - despite their glaring weaknesses.   As for midfield give Mulumbu some pitch time and Howson a rest.   Up front I would stick with Mbokani and try to get him to defend from the front;  if he still cant do that role then I would probably rest him for CJ  on Sat.

Never having played I am no expert on football tactics but would there be any advantage in trialling a formation with three across the back, Martin, Bennet and Bassong or are any of these three capable or disciplined enough to carry it out?

I assume you mean the Bennett who's on loan at Bristol?  Unless you're being really hipster and suggesting Ryan Bennett gets a go at right wing? ;)

Three across the back always interests me, BUT....it takes an experienced defensive coach to instill the right way to play plus real quality players to carry it out.  I feel that our manager could learn a hell of a lot by studying how Pullis set his side up at the weekend,  that would help..... I genuinely believe that Pullis is the best in the business at organising a defence. At times West brom had a row of six across the back realkg working together as a unit,  yet still looked a threat going forward when necessary.

I am not sure our manager,  even though brilliant for his years and experience has the know how to be clever defensively at this level.

Shame Toffolo is out on loan as Everton woukd have been a great test for him.

3 at the back is an interesting option, but we just dont have the personnel to employ it, we have 3 center backs plus wisdom if you feel he can play there, the left side would be fine with either Olsson or Brady both perfectly capable of playing left wing/back-left mid, but who plays right wing-back-right mid, do you put martin there meaning you have to play Wisdom in the center, do put Wisdom or Whitts there, both of whom I  dont think are slightly suited to that role, or do you give Redmond a go there and expect him to cover the whole of that side on his own, which would be an absolute nightmare as he just isnt disciplined enough defensively to do that job, Howson I guess could do a job out there, put realistically thats just putting him there as we dont have anyone else to do it, E. Benno would be a good choice but obvously he's out on loan and I think would also be out of his depth playing there week in week out in the premiership.

I'll eat everyones hats if we line up 3-5-2 tomorrow night

During the Walker era, we employed three centre backs with a sweeper behind them not in front and it proved very successful allowing Bowen to maraud up the pitch on the left side and cause mayhem in partnership with Crook.

The sweeper has gone out of fashion and I don't really know why. Fashion maybe as managers tend to be like sheep and if several clubs are doing something they then think it must be brilliant and copy it despite not having the personnel to do it.

I think that is why we are having trouble at the moment. What is the point of having two wingers and only one striker but still playing Howson out of position? I really must sound thick but what is the point, at home especially, of pounding away at defences only to get caught out because we can't defend when they break against us? There might just be sound justification for three at the back. That would give us another striker.

I'd go something like:

                      Rudd

 Whittaker Martin Bassong Olsson

               ONeill  Mulumbu

Jarvis Odjidja-Ofoe Brady

                    Jerome

Mbokani has a bug at the moment, so probably won't be risked. Jarvis and Brady can drop back to complete two ranks of four to defend when the ball is lost and then break with pace to support Jerome and Odjidja-Ofoe when the ball is won without the defensive weakness that Redmond brings.
