If we sell Fer and especially to QPR I will be so disappointed. The board made it clear at the end of the season that they wanted to make it upto the fans by getting straight back up and to me it is to keep hold of our best players and not sell them even more so if they are on long contracts. And if O'Neil is say Fer's replacement do you really see him as a better replacement?? I am just worried we will sell are better players who would give us a better chance at promotion which I don't see as repaying the fans.

I saw an interview with the Blackburn manager this morning and he was saying how keeping Rhodes was a show of intent by the club, if you believe the rumours, they were offered plenty of money for him but they decided to sign him up long-term to show they are committed to getting back to the Premier League. I feel this is the same with Fer, we need to show that we're committed to keeping our best players to get back to where we want to be.

I don't care who he goes to as long as we get the right price. I would much rather have Howson that Fer any day of the week, Howson is more creative scores more goals and puts more of a shift in.
I really really don't see where this love in for Fer has come from all of a sudden.

In the few games Howson and Fer played together, they actually looked very decent.
I like Fer's technical ability on the ball, and he moves past people opening up the play more. I just think he has that little extra bit of class that will really shine through this year with the formation we'll be playing and a striker who can run in behind (Grabban).

In the Championship we need players that can slog it out and grind out wins and I don't think Fer is that player, Gary O'Neil is that type of player not as technically gifted as Fer but will crunch people and run his nuts off.
We have so many midfielder's too I hope Adams knows what formation he wants to play and what players:

If he goes back into the premier league he is taking a step up, whether its Citeh, Burnley or any of the other 18 in between; its understandable that any player want to play in the best league they can during a short career.

Agree with the right price being key and not fussed by the club.
But I do struggle with the howson better argument. Yes Fer was inconsistent, as many overseas players are in their first season in england (says more about the poor quality and physical nature of the prem league than anything else) but in comparison to Howson, Fer scored more goals, provided more assists, succeeded in twice as many tackles and gained more wins and points per start. As a misquote from the life of brian, apart from all that what has Fer ever done for us?
Having said all that I expect Fer to go because he has some quality, and as I posted elsewhere this is the season where I expect Howson to finally start consistently deliver on his potential.

This whole debate raises that old chestnut of squad systems and how players are then used.
If you are playing only 1 or 2 games a week and don't pick up excessive injuries or suspensions then you are really only needing (and can keep happy) 11 plus 3 used substitutes (and then some managers don't even use all those substitutes).
Given that and the large squads that ex-Premier teams bring down to the Championship there always has to be a readjustment, and with that a change in manager and style there has to be several go out and types of player have to be looked at.
It is easy to see that we have a surplus of wide players, probably now a surplus of holding defensively minded players but in the aggressive forward thinking midfielder we only really have two played there - Howson and Fer. Also Howson has been used in the more defensively minded role too.
Surely given that no replacement has been bought, no similar youngster promoted (Dawkin was similar) unless Adams doesn't intend EVER using a player in that role means he fully intends keeping Fer,.

When Howson played in the AM role at the back end of the 2012-13 season he was brilliant and scored them two goals against West Brom and Man City.
Last season he was played on the wing or as a DM and that's not his game.

Picking the ball up in the middle and driving forward are two things he should be doing. A true AM needs to be able to pick the ball up in a tight space, maneuver and then find a teammate or make room for a shot. I don't think he's been played out of position by Hughton but he was certainly far too restrained.at times.
Agree on the points about Howson though, he's undoubtedly better in an advanced position. He's only really shown glimmers of class here at Norwich, mostly under Lambert, but he's indoubtubly a good player. With the team set to be playing to his strengths it could be a good season for him.

I hope it does. I'd like to see Fer stay a Canary this year. He provides some good size in the midfield for us. Doesn't he play anywhere in the central midfield? (ACM, CM, and DCM)

I think QPR's signing of Mutch ended their interest in Fer, and Isla signing increases that feeling. Fer may still go if somebody is willing to match City's price, but I think that both the Snodgrass deal and RvW's loan show that no one is going to leave on the cheap.

I agree it looks like a lot of players...but seeing them lists like that (thanks by the way!) made me think a bit...
The midfield 'battle' is absolutely key to getting out of this league. That is 12 players for 4 positions, but let's look at them a bit.
Tettey, Bennett, Pilks - all have had injury problems last season
Jacob, Josh, Nathan - all teenagers and will need to be used sparingly I think
Johnson, O Neill - both likely to be fighting for the holding midfield position and given the number of games both I think will play significant numbers of games this season
Fer - I still think will leave before the end of August I'm afraid
Howson, Surman, Hoolahan - will be needed at various times depending on the opposition and the formation. I can't imagine a midfield with all three in it, but again I think all three Will be needed at different times.
Given the fact that we will play 50+ games this season, I think that probably all of those players are going to be needed and will play depending on formation, form, tactics, injuries etc.
But you may disagree? One thing I would say is that none of them are to my mind poor players and they do give us massive options and variety, which can only be a good thing?
Now if we were to discuss the defence I wouldn't be nearly so sanguine!!!

If Fer is in the right frame of mind and willing to ply his trade in the Championship and work hard, I'd keep him for the year and see how we and him get on. He won't lose too much value even if he somehow has a terrible RVW-like season. He'd be the most complete midfielder in the Championship. But as I said, if he is not up for the fight then sell him.

I really hope he stays, as LSC has stated, with the right attitude, frame of mind (and determination),Fer could rule the Chumps!! My only issue with that is come January, but can cross that bridge when we get there!!!
