Historical Kit Variants

I'm a Subbuteo collector and I have a Norwich City team in which the players are wearing white socks with the usual green shorts and yellow jersey. I looked it up and this indeed was a valid kit which was worn between 1967-69. The team wasn't doing anything special then; they were mid-table fodder in the second tier and it was a couple more years before Ron Saunders came along and took you up into the top flight in 71/72 which roughly coincides with the yellow-green-yellow combo being established as the de facto standard.

I found a visual history of all your kits at the following website and the white sock variant is really the tip of the iceberg. You wore black shorts for quite a significant part of your history (including the 1959 FA Cup Run when you got to the semi-finals as a third tier team):

Anyone know the story behind the yellow-green-white combo? It's not mentioned anywhere and it seems like an odd thing to do.

Black shorts were the norm for many years. The change to green shorts happened because fans and the local press suggested the idea and the club took note. Black shorts alternated with green shorts for a few years until the green ones were adopted full-time in 1971. I believe (but may be wrong) that the white socks were because the club originally played in blue and white and there was some anniversary which was commemorated by using the white socks.

The only thing I can think of is the 60th anniversary of the change of your nickname from the Citizens to the Canaries which was done in 1907 and is when you first started wearing yellow and green. Perhaps the white socks were a reference to the older heritage. Kind of an indirect time capsule.
