Some of the posts in this thread are a bit odd. Yeah he wasn't great last season but nobody was. Attitude problems can be managed, people can mature and relationships can be rebuilt if these really are problems with the player. Doesn't the fact that he played a key part in the club's highest finish for 20 years mean anything?

He is clearly out of favour and Adams has made it pretty clear he has no future here. Irrespective of what he may or may not have achieved in the past, he is no use to us while Adams is the manager. As such, I'd much rather we sold him for a pittance than kept him here on low morale and high wages.

I don't think anybody doubts that he has ability, and that he had one fantastic season for us - but the man has developed a reputation as a sulky player with an over inflated sense of his own self-importance. Not just during his time here, but also at Newcastle. On the final day of the season that Newcastle were relegated he publicly criticised his team mates claiming that none of them were bothered by relegation, Bassong was actually suspended for that final game after picking up a red card, a few months later he was refusing to travel to pre-season friendlies whilst many of his teammates stayed and helped Newcastle back into the Premier League.
Bassong also had a reputation with Spurs and Wolves fans for not looking bothered when things weren't going his way. It is clear that Bassong cares only about himself and is a disruptive influence, so that's why I'd be happy if we gave him away for free. This is the second time he has signed a contract then thrown his toys out of the pram to force a move. You are effectively telling us to show him more respect because he had a decent season, I'm not so sure we should be expected to do that - where is his respect towards our club and our fans?
If he thought he wouldn't be willing to play in this division, or under a manager other than Chris Hughton, then why did he sign a new contract in December 2013 whilst we were relegation candidates and Hughton's job was under pressure? With no release clause?
Then there are the various other idiotic things he has done in his time here, like his fine for carrying an illegal police baton in his car, and the time he thought it was cool to pose with a replica firearm on twitter. That's just the stuff that we can provide citation for, ignoring his alleged attempt to humiliate Neil Adams in front of his team mates.
Three relegations from the Premier League now for Bassong, how many games in the Championship? It is actually the fourth relegation of his career, he got relegated with Metz before he forced his move to Newcastle too. Not sure what Bassong has achieved in the game to deserve respect, one good season at Newcastle, one good season at Norwich. Four relegations. He's 28, does he have an FA Cup medal? Or to put it in his way.... "Am I supposed to know who he is?". He doesn't even get picked for Cameroon these days.
That's why I won't be sad to see him go, and why I'm not fussed what the fee is. Not because I have doubts that he is very capable when he can be bothered and when he can put the interests of his team before his own, but he seems to burn his bridges at every club he joins.

My concern about the money for Bassong is that the Club should recoup some of his original fee when he goes. His going for free would annoy me. £2m would seem to be a reasonable amount, considering the situation.

I honestly don't care if we let him go for free.
He's utterly useless to us

He will not dig in.
I'd rather stop paying him wages and give him away to a CARP premier league team destined to become his fourth premier league relegation host, than keep him here collecting £35k a week.

I'm not 100% sure why Bassong hasn't been sold already. It's been clear since the end of last season that he wasn't in Adams plans, and has been even more obvious since Adams took over on a perminant basis. As we saw in his first season here, when he's in form he's as good as anyone, and I think for about £3m or less he'd be a great signing for any bottom half Premier League side. If we can get a decent amount for him then great, but I think it's essential we get rid of him as soon as possible, especially as he's probably on a good 25/30k a week.
