Hell yes, he's a goal machine and before signing there were question marks on whether he could do it in the prem, i don't think there's any question marks as to whether he could do it in the championship.

Sadly, looks like he's going, reports in June were strong suggesting he's off and that was to Palace back then too... I think we're just sorting a replacement out until the deals done. Be sad if it's him wanting out, must admit. While we understand the managers approach to games was mostly to blame, he was still being paid and part of the squad that saw us fall out of the league. I find it disrespectful to willingly jump ship so easily if you were part of the cause.
There's a definitely link to players getting injured prior to leaving, anyone know if McNally has some form of violent tourettes syndrome?

Why is Adams so adamant he wants to keep him then? He wasn't quite as committal with the players that have already left.

Because the player wants to go and they're holding out for the biggest offer on the basis that he's our first choice forward if fit i imagine? ...Of course he's not being utilised as that role because he's currently/conveniently injured. If the 5 mil is true then we're breaking even, i expect they're prepared to hold it out for final day to get the value up with a panic bid.

I can't honestly see a figure as high as this. I suspect that Celtic were slightly surprised at how much the very obsessed Hughton persuaded our club to pay. One season with us in the Prem didn't do much to enhance the player's reputation. Granted that he had a bad start injury-wise, and he was our top-scoring striker (not saying much) and making allowance for playing under Hughton, he is still an unknown quantity.
I think that it would be a big gamble for another club to pay such a large amount on a player who scored goals in Scotland, but didn't set the world alight beforehand or after in England.
I would not not, personally, have any objection to giving him another season under our new manager, who seems to have more nous on attacking football. It could work out gloriously, and currently we have only two out and out strikers, - Grabbs and Jerome, plus Lafferty on the wing. There is also the "ghostly" Becchio and young Lozar. These are not not massive resources for a long and tiring season, and yet NA seems to have finished buying strikers. The conclusion is that it would take a massive bid to tempt us to sell, and I can't honestly see one coming, especially as the player is injured.

Now we have Jerome I am less tied to hooper staying. His work rate and footballing skills were poor and I think we have far stronger options at the club; happy to recoup our outlay and let him leave.

He's a goalscorer, pure and simple, a throwback, 'lazy', ruthless goalscorer. Don't want him acting the workhorse, don't want him picking the ball up from midfield on a mazy run. Want him in and around the box scoring goals, it's what he's good at. If you want to compare him with Jerome as a goalscorer then consider the fact that Hooper scored just 2 less in one season in a misfiring team than Jerome has scored in the last 3 seasons.
If you placed Hooper in the positions Lafferty was in at the weekend he would've walked away 3-0 winners.
Judge him on his goals and we will need a shed load of goals this season if we're aiming for top 2, and that number won't be coming from Jerome or Lafferty, in my mind selling Hooper is probably the worst thing we could do right now IF we believe that Jerome is his replacement.

I am more than happy with letting him go for the right price! Like it was said before, he got away with it last year as Wolfy was getting all the attention!! Plus the deflected goal against the Swans. Yeah Hoops has score plenty in this league before, but that does not mean he will do it again!! But it is tricky as NA is setting us up well for attacking football! But the strikers that are playing are doing a great job, and with the addittion of Jerome I cant see where Hoops will fit in!

I'm surprised so many people are biting on this 'London journo speculation' that two London teams are fighting over Hooper. There is nothing whatsoever to support it and it makes no sense that City would sell him for £5m. Fantasy journalism full stop.
London24 actually interviewed Warnock yesterday and he did not even mention Hooper.

I would love Hooper to stay, as I think with the right service he can easily get 20 plus goals this season. If we continue with the 4-2-3-1 though it'll be hard for him coming back from injury to come in and assert himself up front, particularly if Grabban continues this run of form.
I wouldn't be that happy if we accepted £5m, considering what we paid. I wouldn't accept anything less than £7m personally, but with his injury, and considering that towards the end of last season he actually looked quite poor at times, I wouldn't be surprised if we accepted less than that.

Not completely unbelievable though is it, was only 13 months ago that Gary Hooper was in London negotiating a contract with Harry Redknapp after they'd agreed a £5m fee with Celtic, with Redknapp even telling the media that the deal was done and Hooper admitting that he was very close to signing when we came in at the last minute.
With Chelsea triggering the release clause of Loic Remy it is likely that QPR are in the market for another striker. My feeling is that Hooper will be off.
Unfortunately I think that leaves us short of a poacher, somebody who just gets on the end of things in the box. We've lost two of those - Hooper & RVW, neither Lafferty or Grabban are particularly clinical in that area. For me, there was room for Hooper in this set up.
