but our lack of goal scoring still an obvious concern.

Just a bit. If you we want to contend the top 6 next season we'll need to find probably the best part of another 20 goals more than we've scored this season. And that's before you take Maddison's goals out of it.

The recruitment in the attacking areas is going to have to be really, really smart.

Worth noting that whilst he has been poor you've also got Nelsons 8 goals to replace, presuming he leaves. So yes, they're going to have pull a couple of gems from somewhere for us to challenge next season. Here's hoping!

I think our recruitment in the last year has actually been pretty good, and improving all the time. Considering restraints we are working under (completely self inflicted due to previous poor recruitment and contracting, imagine if we had had Webber around to say to Alex Neil "no mate, I don't think buying Naismith is a particularly good idea"!) I think the signs are decent. We have also shown that we can turn a bit of profit on a player that folk maybe wouldn't expect, think Howson, Grabban, and Johnson.

I'm looking forward to the summer, exciting times ahead!

We'll be hindered if we keep Maddison this summer, basically.

We need his transfer fee to build a new attack.

Nobody else left to sell for any sort of substantial fee... and people debate about whether he's a £20m player, or a £25m player, or £30m player... but there's a huge difference between £20m lump sum and £30m spread over a four year contract.

We also have the complication of needing to sign more homegrown players, so we can't just sign three attacking players from Germany... which makes selling Maddison all the more important, because English players cost money. Gunn and Reed are off, Watkins will probably go to Bristol City.... Matthews and Godfrey probably in, but we need several English players.

One player that I think would be a good signing is Scott Hogan. Has had a disappointing season at Aston Villa but he's only 25 and he's ambidextrous. Plus can play out wide and Farke likes versatility.

If Villa sneak up through the play-offs then they'll clearly being spending their Sky money on an upgrade, so may be worth a punt?

Another possibility is Sam Winnall? Did his cruciates this season so would be a risky one, but he knows where the net is.

Jack Marriott at Peterborough of course, and it would be nice if we could do a double deal with Marcus Maddison their winger / attacking midfielder thrown in.

Can't think of any others. Could take a punt on Jason Cummings who flopped at Forest but Farke may feel he can get firing?

This is one area where loan players isn't going to cut it..... Championship sides keep getting mooted with moves for people like Jerome Sinclair and Ashley Fletcher, but their CV's aren't any better than that of Carlton Morris.

There's Lewis Grabban who would probably fit in our system quite well but Bournemouth will want him to leave on a permanent this summer, and do we really want an expensive 30 year old who once refused to sit on the bench for us? A season long loan I wouldn't object to, but we're trying to move away from 3 year deals for 30 year olds. Plus Villa will probably want to keep him if they don't go up because one of the newly promoted sides or newly relegated sides will take a punt on Kodjia.... who Villa will want to sell to balance their books when parachute payments decrease.

By far the toughest position to recruit for.... would be lovely if there were a plethora of up and coming talent in League One but when you've got Danny Graham, Will Grigg, Eoin Doyle and Brett Pitman in the top 10 goalscorers you realise that there clearly isn't.

I watched an interview with somebody who said "a house is still only worth one house", it was about property wealth. Meaning of course that your house increasing in value is irrelevant if you want to replace it with a similar house in a similar location.

At the time the Grabban fee felt like an amazing piece of business. But he's currently the joint top scorer in the Championship... Bournemouth will probably want their £8m back and will probably get it, despite him now being a few years older.

Yes I think he is the exception in my list, I think we definitely had the best of Howson and Johnson. But like you say, considering his off field antics, that fee was pretty good at the time.

Reed impressed me again yesterday. But I suppse with Southampton hovering over the trapdoor there's little chance of signing him. You were there Morty, what's your view of him?

I love Reed, and it would be great if he stayed, but I can't see him staying either.

Am not sure RB is his position, he does well enough there as he is an intelligent, hard working guy, but I would rather see his energy in midfield.

I'd happily have Reed here again next season, works hard is positionally versatile and has a good range of passing, the issue is going to be if Southampton go down there's a pretty good chance that they'l want him to be part of their squad next season with a year in the championship under is belt

Aye Paddy is good too, and not being a Norwich fan, can be pretty objective.
Exactly, interesting to get the rounded out story from a variety of sources. Including Norwich talk of course!

Does he have a good range of passing? I would say he is fairly limited in that area.

One almost 30 year old that I wouldn't mind us taking a punt on, if we can come to an agreement with Jarvis this summer, is Anthony Pilkington.
