I know that the above is harsh, but when is Alex Neil going to realise that the bloke is just a liability in this league and is going to make a massive mistake in almost every game he plays.

Why exactly did we buy Pinto? Seems like a downgrade on Whittaker.

Can't judge any player from just one game, that's just silly.

And he wasn't the perpetrator of either one of our two ridiculous short back passes today, Martin and Brady, what the feck was that about. Who plays a back pass without looking up first! Do a Malky Mackay and boot the ball into row Z if any doubt whatsoever.

What an amazing game,  but again we shoot ourselves in the foot with individual errors.  I guess Russell Martin actually played himself out of the team today, that was an amazing error when he had an option to play the ball forward.  Some positives though,  our energy was so much better than the embassment lasr week, Naismith is class and I thought that was a decent debut by Pinto. Clearly though that team needs a Tettey or if he is not available a Mulumbu in it, cant understand why our Manager cant see that.

Left his man unmarked for Liverpool's second - or was it third? Difficult to count when you're giving goals away all over the place.

I'm wondering whether Alex Neil needs somebody to come on board to help organise and coach the defence or something.

There must be a Phil Neville equivalent who can come in and help out with that.

Can't escape the fact that the defense has just been a complete shambles all season. Today we seemed to lack that screen in front of the back four, don't know what Mulumbu has to do to get a game in the absence of Tettey and O'Neil, he played excellently against Man City earlier in the season and we've not seen much of him since.

Playing Hoolahan, Naismith and Redmond together without any ball winners in the middle, not sure if that's bravery or stupidity to be honest.

Still waiting for someone to play better at rb than Whittaker. But it's early days for Pinto.
We bought him on the cheap from Zagreb and throw him into a game like this a few days later. Is that good decision-making?

Tettey's absence exposed the defence we already knew was poor even more than we could have expected. Don't want to see Russell Martin in central defence ever again.

Luckily we have top defender waiting in the wings and the other new signing in Naismith looked every bit as good as expected. I'll judge Pinto on a day where everybody wasn't awful defensively.

Not sure why you are singling out Pinto today to be honest because I don't think he was any worse than the rest of our back 5 with the exception of Bassong, and in fact was clearly not the worst.

I'd honestly pin this one on Alex Neil, he got the XI wrong.

My take home from the comfort of my armchair was....

  1. When is Alex Neil going to realise that playing a mid-table Championship standard right back in the middle of our defense is a recipe for disaster, Russell Martin is not good enough and we can all see it. We may as well have played Klose today because even if he needs time to settle in, it wouldn't have been any worse.
  2. What on earth possessed Alex Neil to think that he could get away with not asking somebody to at least attempt to imitate Alex Tettey today, either Mulumbu or somebody else.
  3. How many people are wondering whether Ruddy might be worth another try after his nice break, because whilst we may not be able to pin any particular errors on Rudd, the goalkeeper plays a big part in how confident and organised the back four are, and today they looked neither confident or organised. We've conceded 10 goals in 3 games.
  4. What the hell has happened to Nathan Redmond, after his cryptic tweet minutes before the transfer deadline and a potential Raheem Sterling situation in the summer, I'm wondering whether he has the appetite to be involved in a relegation battle because he didn't look like he was giving his all today and if he doesn't want to be here then flog the bloke asap. He was having a big impact on games earlier in the season, at current he is not.
On a positive note, some nice exchanges between Mbokani and Naismith in the first half, hopefully the start of a nice little partnership and some points if we can sort the shambles at the back out.

I hope we see more performances like that from Naismith and that he wasn't simply raising his game against Liverpool because he's just come from Everton.

What's the point in signing Dorrans if we weren't going to use him.

We were 2 - 1 up at half time, 3 - 1 up at 55 and level at 92.

Mulumbu would have made sense from the off but obviously he rates Dorrans, and honestly Dorrans and Howson didn't do that badly.

Defenders literally giving them goals lost this for us, not the absence of a midfielder that has hardly kicked a ball for us this season.

At least Alex Neil used the right word - shambles. It's not fair to single anyone out when the whole thing is so shambolic. Why play a left winger as left back and leave your recognised left back on the bench? Why throw in some unknown guy who has just signed from Zagreb as your right back and then put your right back in the centre with no holding midfielder? But none of that excuses the pathetic back passes and lack of man marking we saw today.
