Pilkington WOW

He was quite adamant he has been fit all preseason though. Having a niggle on Friday wouldn't add up with that. I really hope this gets sorted because Pilkington on form could score us 15 goals this year.

This whole Adams appointment already looks a bit silly. We should have gone for malky

Gorlestonegirl - just re-read statement too and you've made an important observation there. He never said Pilks was injured at all. He never said he even had a 'niggle'.

In the meantime pilks himself has made it clear he was correcting paddy for saying that he was injured.

So, on reflection - This incident is saying far more about the tension in supporters (me included!) than any breakdown between Adams and his players.

Basically all this reaction is to a tweet by Pilks that he was not injured. I do not tweet so have not seen the exact wording. But by GG's  input, and welcome to the sane side, Adams has not said that he was injured. A physio may have said something to him which decided to omit Pilks from the match day squad. It is, I am afraid, much ado about nothing.

By the way, why have I got "0 warning points". Nobody else has. I demand parity.

This reflects badly on the manager, something's amiss here.

Managers lie about players fitness up and down the country every week - it is relatively normal (look at Magath at Fulham who basically said Mitroglou was injured for 6 months despite there being nothing wrong with him). Players clash with managers all the time, but it is usually kept behind closed doors - not Adams fault Pilkington has spoken out.

The phrase 'niggle' is like an alarm bell, which usually means "out of favour".

Adams has done nothing wrong here, I imagine Pilkington will be pulled into the office for a talking down and possible fine (depending on how the clubs media policy is written).

Norwich were relegated last season, there are going to be fractions and unhappy players in the squad. Adams needs to stay strong and stick to his guns - Kenny Jackett showed at Wolves last season that being firm with players is the best way to drag a squad up from repeated failures.

For those without twitter, it went like this:

Adams post match:

"We have one or two niggles and Anthony himself did not train on Friday. You go with what you feel and cover yourself in all positions. Anthony travelled with us but he wasn’t involved. I felt we had the bench to deal with everything."

Paddy's tweet off the back of that:

"@paddyjdavitt: #ncfc boss confirms Piks didn't train on Friday. Little niggle. Hopeful Hooper back in contention for this coming weekend"

Pilks subsequent tweet:

"@Pilkington_11: Hi pal @paddyjdavitt just to clarify mate no niggle been fully fit all pre-season..

Good point bethnal, we need our own versions of Karl Henry out of the club, not to be buying them!

I would say Pilks' attitude and loyalty is spot on as he has successfully deflected all criticism of a poor performance at Molineaux onto a nothing discussion about wording of tweets.  I should think Neil would buy him a drink for that ;)

All much ado about nothing really. Pilks probably should have DM'd Paddy rather than open messaged him and let Paddy correct himself. Suddenly, little or no tension, and no stress for fans about instability, etc..

Hopefully he will have learned from this.

PS - Thanks CanaryBoy

Just came on to post the same. This isn't a good sign at all.

Nice Avatar! I remember having the exact same sticker on my bedroom wall. Had the whole squad and the shiney from that year!

To be fair he has been sicknote most of the last 2 season, and hasn't played that well when he was fit.  I think he is angling for a move but can't see any prem teams (maybe villa) wanting him.

Get a decent offer £3m or so and get rid.

With a year on his contract an no form to speak of since 2013 I think Norwich would be lucky to get £1m - which I'd happily take just to free up his wages.

Pilkington was great when he first signed for Norwich but isn't that player anymore - he needs to worry about improving his performances and fitness more than correcting Adams' comments to the press.

Never have forgiven him for the *bleep* show he put on against Southampton last season, not one bit of effort went in that day and almost every fan in the away end was calling on Hughton to sub him as he had a shocker to end all shockers. Sell him, probably doesnt want to be here anyway and could get a bit of profit out of it. I mean we all know he isnt a terrible player and we have seen what he can do, I think his attitude probably plays a big part in why he isnt getting anywhere near the squad, ditto Bassong, because I think we all know Bassong could easily cut it at this level, despite having a nightmare last season.

I also think this is being blown out of proportion. Let's wait and see what really happened before we start imagining what did or didn't happen.

From what I read, albeit on here, NA comments didn't need correcting.
