RYAN Bennett has committed his future to Norwich City by penning a new three-year deal.

The 24-year-old, who has made 48 appearances for the Canaries, extends his stay at Carrow Road until at least the summer of 2017.

"Signing is something I was looking to do and I couldn’t be happier to do it," he told Canaries.co.uk.

"Personally and family wise, it’s been an unbelievable two years with everyone around the club and I’m very happy to extend that. With the size of the club and the ambitions we've got for this season and the future – we want to be back in the Premier League which is where every player wants to be playing - signing this extension gives me a few extra years here and hopefully we can build that together.

Manager Neil Adams added: "We're really delighted, Ryan's a superb young player with the range of qualities that he's got on and off the ball.

"There are very few more aggressive defenders than him, especially in the air. He's been here a few years already, and with him putting pen to paper I'm really happy."

Central defender Bennett signed from Peterborough United in January 2012 after making over 100 appearances for Posh over three seasons.

He started his career at Grimsby Town, where he was made captain aged just 17 and for whom he played 117 times between between 2007 and 2010.

At least we're not allowing contracts to run down and then releasing decent players on a free like in the past.

Delighted by this - still a lot to learn but has all the right attributes to become a great player.

Decent news for sure, always found him a little inconsistent and he has a way to go but he's promising. So someone please advise him to close the attacker down a little quicker.

Good news. I believe if you give him a full season at CB he could become a top player. Being in and out of the team doesn't help his confidence or ability. Would like to see him play a bit more.

Really pleased with this, along with the likely new contract for Wes. Turner, Martin, Tettey, Surman and Rudd to follow?

Good to hear contracts are being addressed now instead of a month before they expire.  Bennett should continue to develop this year and contribute nicely to the squad.  Glad to have him until 2017.

Hope he gets a good run of games at this level, think it will do him the world of good. How many games did he play in the championship with peterborough ?

Assuming Seb leaves its a prudent thing to do;  only two recognised centre backs at the club is not a good position to be in

I guess that makes sense to you, but I believe it leaves the rest of us bemused.

I don't rate him, and feel giving him a long term contract is a mistake.

He hasn't developed at all since coming to Norwich and is yet to show he is anything more than an average defender (IMO). Whilst he'll be okay in the Championship, if Norwich get promoted they will have to keep paying a player not good enough for that level. A player who could potentially be on wages prohibitively high to be able to sell him.

Bennett looked much better playing alongside Turner than he did alongside Bassong last season.

I think that Bennett & Turner partnership kept a few clean sheets last season, at Stoke away they were excellent.

If we did go up and the manager (whoever that is) decides he wants to invest in better players, then isn't it better to get a million or so back for him? Rather than release him on a free? Have let too many contracts expire in recent years for players who would have commanded a fee of some sort.

Because:

1) You are getting on admin's nerves (holds a fair bit of weight).

2) Are by far and away the most moderated user so far, with the most posts deleted, and the only recipient of a moderator warning (almost all of our moderator logs relate to you).

3) You probably won't last here very long (in fact, definitely won't).

4) And that includes the other account that you have here (oops!)

5) Yes, that one, the one you think I don't know about (you aren't as smart as you think).

Obviously your reputation has preceded you.

Honestly knowing your previous behaviour I think it's pretty generous the mods didn't ban you on sight.
