Have to admit I didn't see this one coming, and would be sorry to see him go.

Would keep him, but would be more worried about other players going, with Johnson, Surman, Howson, Fer, and McGeehan if he gets his chance I think we can afford to lose him, If we were to let him and another go out, then I think we might be a bit short of numbers in the middle of the park

The quotes from his agent did make it sound like he'd be leaving on a bosman at the end of the season, perhaps that has forced the clubs hand.

I think he's rather surplus to requirements. 5m for him and Id be happy. Very limited one-dimensional player. Very good at intercepting and breaking up play. But thats about it. Would be happy to see him go for some cash. Think BJ is more than capable of doing the job at this level

I think 5m is maybe a wee bit optimistic!

No chance of getting £5m for him with a year to run on his deal, if we could scrape £2m-£3m for him i'd be happy enough

Although i would love to keep all our squad together, i'm not even sure given his track record for injuries, a long tough physical season in the championship would see him last and benifit us. I know many have their gripes about bradders, but me personly feel he would be much more useful at this level

Good player but unreliable with injuries, I'd take the hit. O'Neil may be his replacement. Better to have O'Neil for 40+ games than tettey for 20 odd.

One of our  (reliable) forum members saw him in Norwich not long ago so not sure there is anything in this. Bit mixed about him but rate him higher than say Johnson.

I'd be disappointed to see him go. In my opinion he's a level above Bradley Johnson. 

The only thing that works against him is his injury record.

Would disagree about Tettey vs Johnson. Now anyone who took any notice of any of my posts ever (if indeed anyone ever has) they would know I didnt rate BJ as a Premier League player at all (far more keen on him now we've dropped a level),but I feel BJ has far more to his game than Tettey. Tettey reads the game better and is faster and intercepts better, but BJ is much stronger, more aggressive, is an aerial threat and carries a threat from free kicks. Ok his passing is awful, but so is Tettey's when he is asked to do anything more than a safe short pass. Both are terrible when it comes to shooting but BJs shot is harder. Id have BJ over Tettey in this league

IMO, it depends on the opposition. BJ struggles against pace and skill at times, and passing is his weakness, but then he tries more adventurous passes than Tettey. Tettey's strength lies in reading the game and breaking up play. I think we'll see more rotation of players and formations under Adams. If O'Neil does come in, he'd provide good passing and team play, but I'm not sure about his defensive qualities, but 29 games for QPR suggests he must have something. It'd be a great deal on a free transfer.

O'Neill has played a lot of premier games for Pompey and Middlesboro so he must have been considered a good player. Seems more aggressive than Tetty and his passing is considerably better than both our DM's. Agree with other posters, Tetty is the better footballer, but at this level Jonno could be the greater asset.

To me,viewing from afar, have not been totally impressed by Tettey, although I do feel that he is better than he has shown.  I would not be sad if he left, or unhappy if he stays

Obviously all are entitled to their opinion, but the thing that irks me about Johnson is that his pass percentage usually sits around 75%, while Tettey's is closer to 90%. I know stats can be misleading, but that still means, whenever the ball makes it's way to BJ, we lose possession 1 in 4 times, whereas it's 1 in 10 with Tettey.

I am aware that Johnson is more likely to try the killer ball than Tettey, but he's not really capable of it (often enough). I wish he'd just know his capabilities.

Tettey would be a great holding player if he could ever stay fit....unfortunately he has always been relatively injury prone.

That said I don't think there's anything concrete in the Sunderland interest having done some digging.

Probably a desire to cut the wage bill, I would hope we bring Gary O'Neil in as between him & Johnson, we have the defensive midfield position locked down even if Fer and Tettey do leave - and I would hope to get decent funds for both which we can reinvest in a ball playing midfielder.
