Juan Quintero

supposedly we have offered a contract to Arsenal and Chievo target Juan Quintero, he currently plays for Porto and is a current Colombian international with 13 caps to his name as well as playing and scoring in last years World Cup, He's a left footed creative midfielder that plays behind the front man (wes-esque),but at just 22 has many years ahead of him, I like the sounds of this lad despite not seeing much of him personally, my only concern is the article claims we've offered a 2 year deal, which just seems odd for someone so young, he may well see this as a stepping stone for his future

I had to smile when I saw this, after regularly being accused of suggesting targets that are out of our reach, along comes this which is exactly the sort of suggestion I tend to make!

Would be a fantastic signing if there's any truth to it AND he's genuinely interested.

Cant remember him from the World Cup if he played, but based on the description he sounds exactly the type of player we need.

Wont believe it til it happens though!

This would be an amazing signing, and if AN could pull it off it would be something close to a miracle, probably won't happen but would be nice if it did!

More reporting from a Portuguese language site, thanks to Google translate. No idea of veracity or accuracy!"The Norwich is the latest club to express interest in hiring Juan Quintero, who is looking for placement after being waived by Julen Lopetegui. The midfielder, 22, was placed by Tuttomercato site on the route of the English emblem, which has fierce competition from a host of Italians, with Genoa, Chievo Verona, Sampdoria and Palermo in a race to sprint. The fact that a lot of people interested in Italy has to do with his time at Pescara, in the 2012/13 season, before arriving at FC Porto, where he spent two seasons with little brilliance. Once you have purchased initially 50 percent of the pass for 5 million euros, the SAD dragons acquired the other half at the end of last year by 4.5 million. A global investment of EUR 9.5 million that the Dragons are now seeking to recover. The goal goes through the average yield, so that you can show up elsewhere."

9.5M euros would be about £6.7m or just below what we paid for Brady. No idea if this is true though.

No chance :D
I personally don't see why not, the Premier League is a stronger and more well regarded league overall than Serie A, we have a highly regarded up and coming manager who has already shown he can turn results AND players around, not to mention we're in a secure financial position unlike the beleaguered state Italian football is generally in, on top of a great stadium, brilliant consistent support and excellent training facilities.

I'd certainly argue that unless one of the other interested clubs could offer crazy money or European football as a guarantee, then we'd be first choice out of those options, and to my knowledge, none of the clubs can in fact provide either (feel free to point out if I'm wrong here).

This is a player though who was linked with a £20m move to Arsenal last season. I didn't really see any of him last season for Porto, but I can't believe that his stock has dropped so much that if we were to go in for him that other (bigger) clubs wouldn't be prepared to outbid us/offer him more money. I agree that a PL move is more apetising than a Serie A move, but I can't see other bigger clubs in other countries or the Premier League sitting back and watching us take him.

If we got him though I would be chuffed. Haven't seen much of him but from what I have seen he's clearly an excellent player, and still only 22. To be honest though I think a centre back and another striker is more of a priority, and I wouldn't want us to sacrifice a move for one of those over an attacking midfielder. If he were to join though I would be delighted.

According to BYG (who is generally bang on in regards to the situation in places like Italy),Quintero had agreed a deal to join newly promoted Bologna but that Porto and Bologna couldn't agree terms and thus the move fell through, so it certainly suggests that his stock HAS dropped significantly since Arsenal were interested, that we absolutely can afford the price (I read it was a 1mil euro loan fee for the season with a 15m euro to make it perm),and we're almost certainly a better choice than Bologna to help get his career back on track.

In truth though, we have to ask the question as to whether or not there's any genuine indication that we are actually looking to sign him, of if this is simply paper talk and media hype designed to do nothing more than increase the speed of action from genuinely interested clubs and they are using us a catalyst to do this...

It was only 18 months ago that Mulumbu was linked with Arsenal and Liverpool.

Ricky was linked to Man Yoo a season before we signed him iirc.

Still think this is a load of *bleep* though.

I thought I'd post this so we can all get excited about a youtube video for a Portuguese based player, seems like it's been a couple of years since we've done that

One thing I can say is the boy can certainly take a decent free kick

City have been heavily touted with Dynamo Kiev striker Dieumerci Mbokani and Porto midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero. Neil knocked down the link to Quintero, but confirmed Mbokani is a striker he had looked at with the DR Congo striker also interesting Serie A side Chievo and Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.

“No, nothing in that one (Quintero),” said Neil. “The other lad has been touted about for quite a bit. He is one we have discussed, however, that is as far as it has got. It is not about valuations or what the board feel. I am saying I am not doing anything about that at the minute.

Awwww shucks...

Being fair, the Quintero link was always tenuous and whilst most of us would have been delighted if it was true, I think deep down we all knew it was just paper talk.

Personally, I'm happy if we're distancing ourselves somewhat from Mbokani, I just don't think he's right for the club and that we would be better off investing in a younger player with more potential, even if Mbokani could do a job short term as cover for Jerome.
