Cameron Jerome to sign?

Whilst his record isn't overly exciting, he can be a very difficult opponent for a defender in this league, and could very well chip in with 10-12 goals.

£1.5m isn't bad at all, in my opinion.

Hope this goes through.

His record in the PL isn't that great, but this is the championship. Rhodes, McCormack, and Deeney have never even played in the PL (well, McCormack has for two matches without scoring)

Don't think McCormack has played in the PL either?

Premier League teams seem reluctant to take a gamble on Championship strikers for some reason, but are willing to spend big money gambling on overseas players like Altidore or Van Wolfswinkel.

Which is surprising considering the various success stories in recent years - Lambert & Holt in particular. Even Jermaine Beckford managed 8 in one season for Everton.

Particularly surprised that nobody has taken a punt on Rhodes yet. Sunderland, for example, are set to spend £14m on Borini - why wouldn't they spend £10m on Rhodes and see what happens? Worst case he flops and they would get half of that back from a top Champs side who need a guaranteed 20+ goals.

Could we really keep Jerome, Hooper, Lafferty, Grabben and Loza happy and match fit? Can't help but think Hooper will be out the door if Jerome signs.

I'm not criticising his effort, but Hooper didn't look to me like he wanted to be here much in the last couple of months of last season, I'd be surprised if he's still here in September.
That's my reading of the situation too. I still think Hooper would be the most prolific of the five you mention, and other than Loza none of those will be happy doing too much bench-warming, so Hoop moving on seems the most logical outcome. Shame, really, because he's the one I'd most like to see leading the line.

I think we may well see 3 strikers playing at the same time in either a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 much of the time. We'll need 4 strikers pus Loza if that's the case.

Hooper is a funny one.  When he first arrived his touch and hold up play was awful, I was quite surprised by how much he improved in a short space of time after Christmas.  How ever, he looked absolutely disinterested to me in the last few months so doesnt strike me as someone up for the fight.  That combined with how out of condition he has come back in, I wont miss tubby when they manage to squeeze him out the door, doesnt have the right attitude.

Jerome makes sense, you need a striker who can bully the defence at times and we dont have that at the moment.  Anyone know how good his hold up play is? I could also see him operating at the tip with lafferty left, Wes middle and grabban right if its any good, lot of good movement in that trio.

Still wish we would get another left back, but maybe garrido is enough for this division, someone like Andrew Robertson would have been ideal.  Dundee have had a few good players recently, Ryan Gauld looks another prospect in the mold of Wes, though hes at Sporting now.

Having Jerome, Lafferty and Grabban up front would really give us a physical presence!

If we sign Jerome, I think we'll see Loza leave on loan to a league 1/2 club. You need 4 strikers in your team and I fully believe that Hooper is planned to be one of the 4.

I can't see Loza getting any time here this year, apart from a quick 10-20 minutes in a Carling Cup game or a comfortable win. So it's in everyones best interest to see him drop a league and play consistently. Just like Morris has done.

I tend to agree with Loza going out on loan if Jerome comes in.

I see from the Pink'un that Cuellar was at the game last night, so perhaps things are moving on there. No mention of Jerome other than City's offer has been accepted by Stoke.

Ryan Gauld would have been a nice luxury if we'd stayed up. Someone to blend into the squad as Wes aged. As for left back, what about Olsson? I'd say left back is our strongest position at the moment with Whittaker comfortable there as well as 3rd choice. Any news on Garrido? We'll need him for the next two games at least.

Jerome would be pretty astute. I am also beginning to think Hooper will be next off. Remy staying at QPR atm doesn't help his chances of moving there though, they don't really need him now. I thought Hooper looked pretty awful towards the end of the season and hasn't come back in great shape if the pics i've seen are to be believed. It's a bit of a shame really but i'd be happy if we get £8m for him, I think Jerome will be far more effective and Grabban looks like he can be trusted to score plenty. I wonder if Becchio may come into reckoning at all or if we'll get Jerome and one more if Hooper leaves.

I honestly think that we are stuck with Becchio because we've gone and given him too much money. Ken Bates claimed that he was Leeds highest earner on £15k a week and that they had offered him a pay rise to stay at Leeds. I know that Bates is a tosspot, but for some reason I believe him here, he'd scored 19 goals in half a season and strikers have a premium - so is probably true that they were willing to give him big money to stay.

So what's he on here? £20k? £25k? £30k?

Can see no other logical reason why he wouldn't have moved on by now other than that he won't take a pay cut to make himself affordable to your typical Championship side. We've probably frozen him out to try and push him out, a bit like the Lambert bomb squad of Villa's high earning deadwood (Given, Hutton, Bent, etc).

Perhaps he'll leave in the loan window, with us covering half his wages or something, or giving him some sort of pay-off to cover what he loses by signing elsewhere.

He has 2 years left on his deal.

“Luciano Becchio (who joined Norwich City in a swap deal that saw Steve Morison head the other way) is a perfect example. Luciano was already the highest paid player at the club but his agent wanted £1.5m a year basic wage. Even the thickest Leeds fan must see we can’t afford to pay a player £30,000 per week. You only pay that sort of wage if you want to go bust. I don’t know what he got at Norwich, in the end, but I’d imagine it was in that region" - Ken Bates

If we have given Becchio £30k a week, for three and a half years, and then not even bothered playing him - then that has to go down as one of the worst Norwich transfers in history?

I can't imagine we gave him 30k a week. If we did that was extremely dumb, especially if it was a move designed to move Morrison on. However that may explain why we haven't been able to move him on, or why he hasn't grumbled about being out the set-up.

Yes Jim, that's what I thought would have been good for Ryan and us, if we want to continue with that sort of player, he would be cheaper than Will Hughes.  With regards to left back, I agree if we keep both garrido and olsson we are strong, I'm just not sure Olsson is going to stick around, hope we dont get caught out there, im also a big fan of Andrew Robertson and he would have been cheap (just signed for Hull for under 3 mil).

I dont see any way back for Becchio or Bassong, Hooper is definitely going to go in my mind, up top, baring injuries, we have plenty of options if Jerome signs.

So I guess i would be happy with a full back and a centre mid, assuming Cueller and Jerome signs.

I can't think of any other reason why we haven't managed to shift him, other than that his wage demands are prohibitive. The clubs decision to refuse him loan moves on two occasions may be for a similar reason - us having to shoulder too much of his wages whilst he is out on loan.

I genuinely think that we are stuck with him because he's earning a serious wedge.

That sounds extremely logical to me. How long is left on his current deal?
