Charlton Athletic v Norwich

Championship Fixture

10th February 2015, Kick Off: 7:45pm

The Valley Capacity 27,111

Maybe should wait for the match thread for the Charlton game, but just wanted to see if many people have been to the Valley before?

Will be my first visit there on Tuesday and from all accounts its not the nicest of stadiums (and that's putting it nicely). Saying that, from the photos I can find of the ground it looks OK! Apparently getting on the Charlton tube station after the game can always be interesting however.

Anybody got any good experiences as I'm yet to hear any? Also, know of any away pubs before hand for a quick couple?

I was here this day ( and shot this) :-

Not the worst stadium I have ever been to. Yeah the tube was a bit of a pain!

Good video that! Don't think I've ever managed to video a goal live, seem to be cursed so gave up trying! Could almost guarantee that if I got the camera out then the corner would hit the first man or a free kick would hit row Z!

I see the Charlton fans turned out in droves for that game :)

I have two experiences of The Valley.

Getting relegated = Worst away game in my life

Getting promoted = the 2nd best away game in my life (the 5-1.....)

And yeh, its a bit of a dump from what i remember, but had a nice old-school feel to it.

I went to the cup game there, think it was the season we went down under Roeder/Gunn. Bit of a dump of a stadium and was a pain in the neck to get to as there were engineering works all over the place on the tube so we had to take a circuitous route.

Went by car on Boxing Day back in the mid 90s, rubbish journey, we lost and Keith O'Neill got sent off, can't remember what for but it might have been retaliation cos I remember he was showing everyone the lengthy gash on his thigh he had received from a Charlton player. Also went to a League Cup match but that was when they were ground sharing with West Ham at Upton Park.

The away end isn't great. Old, run down and pillars in the way in a couple of areas. The food outlets are overpriced and pretty awful too, but if we win it won't matter a toss!

Back in the early 80s saw us win 1-0 in a cup game, but haven't found my way back since then. 100% record!

I merged the match thread with the thread Safri started a few days ago, and made a right pigs ear of it lol!

Charlton have only won twice since they beat us 1-0 at CR at the end of September. So it would be a bit embarrassing to lose this. That game was literally the definition of 'daylight robbery'. We dominated that game, had 2 clear penalties turned down, did everything but score, and then with 5 minutes left Charlon nick the winner with their first shot on target of the game. That game as well ultimately started the run that led to Adams demise, so I think it's time for some revenge.

Team:

Ruddy
Whittaker Martin Turner Olsson
Howson Tettey
Redmond Hooper Hoolahan
Jerome

Don't think Bassong is gonna be fit for this, if he is though I'd rather see him start over Turner. I'd prefer to see Tettey and Howson in the middle, as Tettey's much more effective at protecting the back 4, and in away games we should utilise this. Harsh to drop Grabban after he had a very good game on Saturday, but Jerome is so much better in front of goal. If Grabban were to start though I wouldn't complain.

Feeling slightly optimistic about this one, which is always bad, so gonna go with 1-1.

I think you just need to swap Tettey for Wes, from the side that played yesterday. Just to firm up the midfield a wee bit. I liked the pressing urgency that Grabban gave us.

I'd stick with the same team from saturday, assuming Bassong is fit.   I think Wes could again be influential, as Charlton have a pretty massive pitch so he'l have plenty of space to feed the strikers.  And i'd stick with the Grabban/Hooper partnership for another game or two, just to see if Grabban can get back amongst the goals.   I might swap Howson for Tettey though.  we'll need to be a lot more solid than against Blackpool

Not convinced we can play wes, redmond hooper and a striker against most side - blackpool yes but not many others.

Would stick with Grabban on merit but it also has the advantage of allowing Jeromes tight hamstring to repair.    Really hope seb is fit as turner and martin still managed to create some scares in our own box on sat despite blackpools lack of threat.   However would prefer him to be fit for wolves.

For me I would move a more solid but still threatening

                       Ruddy

Whittaker   Martin  Seb  Olsson

                      Tettey

Redmond Hooper Howson BJ

                      Redmond

as BJ will ensure the side has more width than wes' central wandering.

Charlton itself is the pimple on the *bleep*of the world. You won't hear any ref whistle as they are drowned out by the police sirens.

Just thank whoever that you don't have to live there.

Can't see too many changes other than those that are necessary such as Sebs back problem so I'd expect this lineup

                Ruddy

Whittaker Martin Turner Olsson

          Johnson Howson

Redmond                    Hoolahan

             Hooper

                       Grabban

Is the striker Nathan's brother?

My first visit to the Valley was when Charlton no longer played there. They played at Gillingham and Maidstone from memory. I went to the 1976 Who concert there, supported by Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Little Feet and Widdowmaker.

I think Wes has got to play tonight. Everyone is saying how great a game Grabban had, but as soon as Wes went off on Saturday we looked a completely different team, for the worse.

I'd go with Saturdays team exactly. Obviously Turner for Bassong if he is not back. Would rather not rush him back as we'll need him for the rest of the season.

Starting to get the old pre-match nerves already. We seem to be great at handing teams a life line when they are on a dire run. Really hope Charlton and Reading don't end up on the same list this season...

Charlton will play a midfield five and close the space. If Wes plays it would have to be off a lone striker with Tettey, BJ, Howson and Redmond otherwise we'll get steamrollered in the middle.

I'd bring Tettey in for Wes and Jerome for Grabban but other wise stick to Saturdays post Bassong injury line up, although in a different formation.

Probably the thing i've found the most frustrating all season. Forrest being the stand-out example
