Paul, I was watching Norwich vs Watford from a perfect spot near the half way line where I could clearly see Martin's ineptitude when struggling to deal with Deeney. If Deeney had better support then we would have been in real trouble. Martin was simply making too many naïve errors and didn't win a thing against him in the first half. Hi reading of the game was poor and had to be bailed out by Turer, Whittaker and Tettey on several occasions.

From my view point, I saw his performance a little in-between where you and Paul have him. He didn't win anything in the air, but I didn't expect him to against Deeney. The important thing is not to let him bring it down and run at you. He gave away a couple of very silly fouls and he'll need to clean that up, very quickly.

However I do agree with Paul that his positioning was decent throughout. Especially on the second half over the first 10 minutes when Watford put a little pressure on. He knows where to go to have the best chance of clearing any ball into the box. He also made a couple of clearances and when he had the ball at his feet, his distribution was good as well.

So he wasn't superb, but he wasn't terrible at all.

My view of him in the second half was altered so didn't have quite such a good perspective on his game. My concern was not based on him losing the aerial duel, more so his struggles when the ball was on the deck. Also, second half Watford's tactics changed in his favour after the introduction of Dyer and I thought he did okay thereafter. I think that there may have been some half time instructions regarding his handling of Deeney.
