I like Murray and think he'd be a very good addition to the strikers we already have, so would be happy if this one came off. But if we're going to spend £5m plus on a striker then I'd prefer Gestede.

isn't he the wrong side of 30 now, quite an intelligent player who can play the lone striker role well.   But £5 mill   more 2-3 at most..there wopuld be very little to sell on in a couple of years

yeah I like Murray too, but he's 32 in september, and at £5m thats just too much to pay for someone that probably only has a couple of years left in him at the top level, just feel that you can getter better and younger for that sort of money

Like Walters, this would be solid. Would also mean that Bournemouth aren't getting him.

derehamyella is right in saying there wouldn't be much sell on value but staying in the league is worth a hell of a lot more than that. Give him a contract for a couple of years with potential for a third and see how it goes.

Closest thing we'll get to a Grant Holt replacement, sounds good to me.

I wouldn't mind Walters AND Murray to be fair, Walters could probably get a fair bit of football on our flanks.

Both good solid footballers and probably far better options for us than starry eyed across the room longing at the Quagliarellas of this world

People are assuming that we are only after one striker though. 

What if all three of Hooper, RVW and Lafferty are available for transfer and we could sign a couple if we can shift two of them?

Wouldn't surprise me at all if we signed two strikers by the time the window closes. If one of them were Walters then that would be a two birds scenario again, where we've signed a player who can compete out wide + up front.

agreed but let's worry about that next season.  The crucial thing is getting the points this season.  We have plenty of options next season already and if survive we shall have the wherewithal to move to players at next level.

But we have to get there first and Murray's brutal functionality could be very useful in getting us safely through the current season.

Got a slight whiff of being a desperation signing - like Walters.

And that's not me writing them off. But, realistically, when you're in the Premier League, you want to be signing someone who has got a few good years ahead of them. Not guys who may have already seen their best days and are only a fairly short term solution.

If we don't survive in the short term, we won't need players who have "got a few good years ahead of them". It is a balance and for me, Murray or Walters can do a job now and get us to the next season when we can move to the next level.

Most of the squad that we were promoted with last season were signed by us in the Premier League? 

We had to lose a few, but we managed to keep hold of the likes of Howson, Redmond, Olsson and Bassong.

I wouldn't be against us signing Walters or Murray, but am much happier seeing signings like Brady.

Reports that we have upped our offer for Walters and still chasing Murray.     If we get both it will look like grabban may leave,  which will be a shame.

Murrays prem record is good (better than all our current strikers excl Jerome) although the lingering doubt is whether he is now on the decline - however for one season only I am sure he can help us get to the mega windfall that being in next seasons premier brings...

I wouldn't shed any tears if Grabban leaves, as long as he is replaced, he's too much of a confidence player and his form is too patchy. 

If we intend to bring in both Walters and Murray then I'd hazard a guess that Hooper is off too. 

That probably leaves us a bit better off in the short term, but it does worry me that we would be selling two players approaching their peak and bringing in two players who are likely to be a little bit past theirs. 

Part of me hopes that we sign one of Walters or Murray, not both, with any other striker being a younger one.
