according to sky sources we've made a substantial offer to Wolves for Benik Afobe, could be a decent signing at the right price, not as much a big name signing as Destro would of been but is still young a knows the English league, could definitely see this happening

I can't see Norwich shelling out more than £8m on a player, simply for the reason that anyone going for that money will a] want wages in excess of the Norwich wage cap or b] not see Norwich as a big enough team for them. I think these two factors will give us a natural ceiling to the player we can sign.

Were I Afobe I wouldn't be too mad about it. Clearly he is a player that will play in the PL at some point. He's young and will get another chance. He's been there less than a year so would probably want to show some loyalty anyway.

Maybe so, but in the modern game it appears that loyalty is often few and far between, and the chance to play at a higher level on probably double his current wages would be a strong incentive for ANY young player who wasn't already at a top club, plus we're not a million miles away from London and also have some great players of a similar age to Afobe which helps when moving to any club.

I think it's likely that Wolves will fight tooth and nail if we decide to continue pursuing the player, but chances are that we'll simply write it off and look elsewhere.

From experience sometimes a club comes out with this sort of unequivocal statement and then caves in under pressure from the player and takes the money... sometimes they don't.

Money talks in football, all the teams in the championship are desperate to go up this year due to the huge windfall coming next year, thats why we're seeing Boro bidding for Jordan Rhodes and Bristol City after Dwight Gayle and Andre Gray because they know how much it can mean to go up this year, but if you offered silly money then you get chairmen start asking if they really need this player to go because they could get a guaranteed £10m-£15m right now and still potentially go up

Look at the Suarez and Bale deals in recent years, both Liverpool and Spurs said that those players weren't for sale, suddenly you get a silly offer them and they become available again, not to say we're going to offer £50m for anyone but £10m+ to a championship side is not to be taken lightly

on the subject of Andre Gray, for £9m I think he'd be a really good buy for us, maybe worth a punt

I don't know how much we've offered, but I bet they wouldn't turn down £10m, a 500% ROI in 8 months.

Wolves are in a pretty shitty position here to be honest, they know that the player is likely to favour a prem move for both the quality and the wages, we're the bigger and better club here than Wolves and they also know that if the player starts kicking off, then they have little to no chance of stopping a move (unless they want him sat in the reserves all season), so they're desperately trying to put us off ASAP before the player starts making major waves.

Much like with Brady, I think the player wanted the move as soon as it was suggested, but until we can get an agreement on cost from the Wolves board then it's simply yet another waiting game. I think they'd sell for around 7-8mil if pushed, maybe 10 with add-ons.

A 22 year old player who signed a 3 and a half year deal half a year ago isn't in any position to start kicking off. And would we really want a player who acts like that anyway? Seems like a non-starter unless we offer silly money, but why would we? Grabban had a good season before we bought him but then he reverted to the same form he's had throughout his career. You can't judge a player on half a season.
