"CITY can confirm central defender Sebastien Bassong has joined Watford on a 93-day loan.



Bassong joined Norwich from Spurs in August 2012 for an undisclosed fee, with the Cameroon international going on to make 65 appearances for the Canaries in all competitions, scoring three times.

City boss Neil Adams commented: “It’s important for Seb to get some first team football and keep himself fit and involved, so this is a good short-term loan move for all parties involved.”

Am pretty indifferent myself actually. A few people on twitter are getting quite animated about it all.

I guess we just have to trust the clubs judgement on this one, rather than get carried away with things.

Depsite all the recent comments he is never going to play here again;  nor was he going to drop to league one level - so another champs team always likely.  

Hoepfully he performs well so we can get a decent fee for him in Jan but too well!

With the instability at Watford (no player sums up instability better than Bassong!),  I don't think they'll be pressing us for an automatic spot at the end of the season.   So i think its a good move, and as we've already beat them, hopefully they can take some points off our rivals.

There's no doubting that a fully switched on and focused Seb would be an asset to any Championship team and, indeed, many mid to bottom Premier League teams. Seb in his first season for us was deservingly our Player of the Season.

However, Seb in "switched off" mode is a liability.

Seems to me that we're in a difficult position, if he plays well, everyone will question why we agreed to the loan. On the flip side, do nothing and let him stay, there's a big wage bill still on the books.

I understand the benefits, particularly removing an unhappy or disgruntled (we presume) player from being around the club.....however, as I said elsewhere......I feel this is a mistake made by a Manager who is still finding his feet in many areas of management, for which I have no problem, he has to learn and is doing so very quickly . But, having said that the CEO, who should know better would I guess sanctioned the move, so what do I know. To a team who will be fighting for relegation, no real problem or,to a club abroad, but a promotion rival.....potentially close to our best CB, possibly all time, when on his game...NO thanks. 

Oh, nearly forgot, this is in no way an anti Neil Adams response......who I genuinely believe is doing a good enough job considering his inexperience.

Good business, IMO. He's not match fit, is an unsettling presence and it get's rid of a big salary up until the January window. He'll take time to get match fit for Watford and then play 8 or 9 games at most and be ready to sell in January. Not a problem for me.

Well its obvious that the relationship between Bassong and the club has broken down, and is irretrievable. If Bassong put his mind into playing his way back into the Norwich City team, I have no doubt he has the ability to do so. So that just leaves his attitude, or the total breakdown of the relationship.

Really, what else can the club do? Its all very well pulling out the "let him rot in the reserves" card, but that just makes no sense.

A smaller club could probably not afford his wages.

Sorry Mark but I really don't see what you are saying here. Are you blaming Adams for what you see as a mistake, or are you blaming McNally for the decision. You appear to be having a go at Adams, or McNally, which one, or both? Then you say it's not an anti Neil Adams post.

Don't worry I'm joking aha. But on Bassong, it does seem like a stupid move to loan him out to a team on the same amount of points as us. If he goes off to Watford now and has a cracking 3 months, and helps them keep plenty of clean sheets (as he did for us in his first season here) and Watford start to open up a bit of a lead at the top of the Championship then whoever allowed this move to happen could end up with a lot of egg on their face. With the greatest of respect for him, hopefully Watford fans won't see the same Bassong that won the POTS a couple of years ago.

That said though, if he goes to Watford and has a brilliant 3 months, then he comes back to us in January in good form, then as long as he is still prepared to play for us then it could work out very much in our favour. It does seem like a very strange thing to do right now though.

I don't see the need for recriminations about this. I don't see much difference between a loan deal, for which we are obviously receiving some remuneration or a permanent which would have happened in August if anyone wanted him.

As we have just witnessed with the release of the KP book, the sporting event lasts a few hours or days but the interaction of players etc is still 24/7 and has to be monitored before it spreads through the club.

If he comes back fit and in form, it would be a good job done and we can use him again. If his problem persists, even after his loan period, than little has changed, although we have save three months salary. If playing for NC again is not in his mind, and Watford will pay us a sensible fee in January, why not sell him?

I have no strong feelings either way, but the situation must be resolved, for his sake and the club's.

I can't see why anyone would be surprised by this, whether they agree with it or not. Adams chose McFadden over Bassong against Crawley, and then signed three centre backs. With Turner, Hooiveld, Cuellar, Miquel all available, plus Martin able to play there and Ryan Bennett only around a month away from a comeback, there was no way he was ever going to feature (easy with hindsight, sure, but I have said this all along). He obviously p*ssed off Adams to the point of no return, so the opportunity to get him out of Colney and playing some regular football suits all parties.

No matter how well he plays for Watford he isn't going to get them promoted on his own, and it's more than likely he'll cost them a couple of goals by trying to waltz round an onrushing striker before falling on his arse and gifting them a one-on-one. If he plays well for Watford and we can recoup a couple of mil for him in January we're laughing. See you later, Seb, and thanks for the memories of your first season.

If the barnstorming Bassong of old (aka Bassong the first) emerges week in week out in the yellow of Watford, we're going to feel pretty stupid. I just hope they're paying his wages in full. If they're not and we're paying him to play for a rival, that is really dumb.

Guessing this is a way of making him a sellable asset in January
