Bassong rumour.

Yes Kirku, Garrido imo is more level headed, good going forward and passes the ball well, its just comes down to personal tastes I guess.

I also feel that Garrido doesn't get the credit he deserves. Good attacking FB who keeps his concentration well.

Does anyone know if Cuellar was ever paired at the back with Turner at Sunderland

He was why turner had to leave matt, effectively turners replacement!

Some people have suggested the Bassong was essentially a Hughton man, having been signed by him and then appointed captain. Perhaps now dispossessed, he is smarting. He has a reputation for beginning well but then going off later in his career.

Fair enough. Personally, I prefer Olsson. Was one of the few players to emerge from last year's debacle with some credit. Very quick, loads of stamina, strong in the tackle. Had a shocker against Wolves, mind.

Crikey, I certainly can't agree Garrido over Olsson - he looked extremely cautious going forward against Watford and for me we also looked much better in the second half on Tuesday with Whitts on the left and Russell on the right. It will be interesting to see Cuellar, I've always though he was pretty decent - certainly the Villa fans gave him a decent send-off when he played his last game there.

I think Garrido can be forgiven for not being entirely match sharp after so long on the sidelines. I do agree that Olsson would be my first choice, but I would have thought we'll see a lot more squad rotation in the Championship given the increased frequency of fixtures, and I do think Garrido is a decent player in his own right.

If Adams could get Bass back on side, that would be like and feel like a new top signing imo, in this league he'd be awesome.

Or are the hurts just to deep now on both sides?

I think it's gone to far now Wiz to be honest. With his training with the U21's and not being part of any first team activity all season, why would you risk bringing him back into the fold when everyone seems to be getting along so well. I think the priority will be getting rid of him before the transfer window shuts and if the rumours are true, I 100% support the manager in that.

You can't bring him back into the fold without Bassong sincerely apologising to Adams. Lots of evidence that suggests that Bassong tends to be lazy and arrogant in his abilities, but for all that he's a talented player and with a manager tough enough to keep him on his toes and who can earn his respect then, as Wiz says, he's a great asset. For his part, I think Adams is tough enough for a player like Bassong. The critical part is getting Bassong's respect. I would think that Adams good results of late and the high spirits in the squad, where he still has friends, might possibly be enough to make him waver in favour of getting back on board and I think Adams shows enough signs of being enough of a pragmatist to work with it, particularly if decent offers in the transfer window aren't forthcoming. All depends how stubborn he's going to be.

I can't see Bassong would be better that Cuellar (I've followed him closely over the past few years on Fantasy Premier League) so there's no chance of him coming back. Sell ASAP at any price.

Thing is, apart from the rumour, there has been dead silence regarding Bassong from both club and press, not so much as even a transfer rumour. He clearly completely abandoned Twitter in May. I don't think I've seen anything quite like this.

Obviously, something serious has gone on, from being Captain to this situation, so sadly maybe we should part ways and save on his wages.

I doubt we will ever know the real reasons as to why though.  :(

Adams has created his own bomb squad just like Paul lambert. Bunn becchio Bassong. Does he have a problem with players with the surname starting with B. Lol

Id never pick Garrido over Olsson. I thought Olsson was an unnecessary purchase when we bought him (didnt know much about him and didnt know how good he was),thought Garrido was fine, and although I thought Tierney was outstanding in his first Premier League season, Garrido seemed an improvement (more culture, less power). But Olsson has been outstanding since he came to the club. Should have been POTS in my opinion last season by a mile, and keeping him this season would be a coup. With regards to Ryan Bennett, I just dont understand the love-in. Is it the same dynamic as the David Fox/Cody Mac thing? (ie less time in the team, more their reputation grows). I've just never seen anything special from Ryan Bennett - decision making seems poor, distribution poor, positioning questionable. I think he is a much poorer version of Turner. Turner is a no-nonsense generally one-dimensional player, and Bennett is in the same mould. When Turner wasnt performing he looked awful, but since that ropey start has been consistently brave and commanding. Bennett when he has a bad game can look every bit as dodgy as Turner did during that period, and maybe he can grow to be consistent and the natural successor to Turner, but I've not really seen him do enough yet to suggest we can rely on that. Turner and Bennett are too similar in my opinion to play together without leaving certain vulnerabilities. Bassong was the perfect partner for Turner, their games complemented each other perfectly (Bassong I, not Bassong II). For Bennett to form an effective defence his partner too needs to compliment him and needs to make up for the gaps in his game. So for me if Bennett is to be backed as the future, he needs a Bassong, a player comfortable on the ball, with pace who can distribute well and is naturally opposite sided to Bennett.
