Right then, who should we sign?

I think city have to be smart when it comes to signings and think of the future. If this guy is highly rated it would make sense for us to steal a march when we have the pull of the Premier League and the financial muscle to be able to have side-projects. Id be very comfortable with us acquiring potential and then loaning them out. If we wait two years for a time we need this guy and he is ready he may well be out of our reach

I agree with that as well. Build a squad rather than trying to buy it like QPR.

Would be nice to see some youngsters integrated into the team but it's obviously tough in relegation dogfights. No chance of us doing a QPR, even if we're buying players mid-end career we're not going for mercenaries.

That's a good point to be fair. I would much rather though we work on improving the defence and the left wing, and even up front, before we think about bringing in highly rated youngsters in positions that we're already well-equipped in.

Maybe we need to accept the possibility that we will always be a yoyo club. If thats the case we're perhaps better off playing the long-game. Waht I mean by that is think long term, no 'we're in the Premier League this year spend spend spend etc. Maybe we need to forget what league we happen to be in and secure a conveyor belt of young talented players and develop them, whether they're ready for the first team at the moment or not. If we go down a league we would have a strong squad to challenge for promotion without needing to asset-strip

Dunno, I think that if we survive the next few seasons there's a very good chance that we could establish ourselves. As it stands there are more than 10 teams that could realistically go down every season but it isn't always like that.

I think that's what Burnley have done. They almost accepted this season was doomed, and spent the cash on building up the club. Now with the parachute payments, they'll likely establish themselves as Championship big-boys and increase their chances of going up again hugely. QPR on the other hand spent like a PL club, and now have the debts of a PL club.

And probably need to jettison most of their team, essentially starting from scratch. They might end up doing this every year if they yoyo. Unfortunately they dont have an Adel Taraabt to spearhead their promotion each year anymore, so they might find themselves in the same position as Fulham/Wigan

I agree with the not overspending and not radically changing the squad sentiment. If expect our model is something like that of an 00s West Brom. Building every season but in a way that the squad wouldn't change radically if they were relegated.

Been quite busy last couple of days.. have we been linked with anyone lately?   I'm writing a piece on The Carrow Crowd on rumours so I thought I should check to see if there's any names i've missed.   Last ones I saw was Glen Murray and Nathan Dyer

That young Swedish defender, Baffo, rumour has popped up again.

Wouldn't be surprised if our next signing was something from left of field.

From what he has been saying about building a dynasty, it would seem that AN feels this way as well. He also has a clear strategy that he wants to build into the team and bringing in star players may not be the way to achieve that.

“It’s something that I’m really looking forward to, bedding in more principles about how we’ll function as a group. When you come in and work on things mid-season, when you’ve got games coming up, you don’t want to over-train them and give them too much information. To be fair, I thought they grasped it really well last year and it won’t take long for all of that to come back and for them to start adding other layers as well. We’re going to new levels, we’re going to come across challenges we haven’t faced before. In those types of scenarios, we’ve got to know how to deal with them. We’ll be doing a lot of work on that.”

Just throwing a lot of expensive players into the mix QPR style just isn't going to do that.

As a way of looking back on all the rumours so far, the Carrow Crowd has cleverly put them all into a starting line-up and bench:

I'm beginning to think we should try and sign John Guidetti on a free transfer, with striker not really being a priority position this summer (in my opinion) I think it would help if we didn't have to shell out a big transfer fee for that position.

He blew hot and cold at Celtic last season but at 23 times is on his side and he's supposed to be a real nice guy and a professional (the opposite to a Bendtner). Just won the U21 European Championships of course, and his best football should still be ahead of him, he's certainly got a lot of talent.

I think he'll have a lot of interest from overseas but he has stated he wants to play in the Premier League. For me, he fits the profile of the type of player we should be looking to sign to bring down the age of our squad, whilst avoiding big egos on big wages like Berbatov and Drogba (very short termist also). Also has a point to prove like Mulumbu, both have had their stock fall over the past 18 months after being linked with some big moves.

Could do with somebody who score from free kicks too, it used to be Snodgrass.

I'd honestly  be very surprised if any Premier League team picked up John Guidetti this summer.

Read something earlier saying that Alex Neil has stated that he wants to bring in 6 players this summer. When asked if that includes Dorrans and Mulumbu he said that it did. Meaning that we're only likely to sign 4 more players.

I think it's fairly obvious that we want a striker, after having a bid rejected for Mbokani, and enquiring about Gestede. As well as the reported interest in Glenn Murray. It's also clear we want a left winger, hence the bid we've put in for Robbie Brady. He would also be ideal as he can play left-back, and considering that we no longer have a back-up left back now that Garrido's left, we'd almost be killing 2 birds with one stone if we bring him in. That's assuming that Toffolo isn't ready for the step up. That leaves 2 more signings, which presumably would be a centre back (we've been linked with Van Dijk and Baffo), and a right back (we've been linked with Yedlin and J.Richards).

If we were to bring in Gestede/Mbokani, Brady, Yedlin and Van Dijk, obviously adding to Mulumbu and Dorrans, I would be very happy with our business this summer (assuming that we didn't sign them for extortionate fees).

I'd be pleased if we signed Mbokani, Yedlin, van Dijk and Brady, but the competition could get stiff for some of those. Transfermarkt lists Brady's value at £1.4m and yet there's talk of us paying £8-10m. I'd be concerned about that, given how badly we've been burned on RvW. Similarly, around £8m for van Dijk would also be a gamble, given that he's never played in the PLand has a Transfermarkt value of £3.4m.

I'd be pleased if we signed VVD, Bradey and 2 better players than Yedlin and Mbokani.

Transfermarkt values are pants.
