So do we expect to still have this guy playing for us after the weekend?  Anyone heard anything?

He's on compassionate leave atm due to a family bereavement, and and has returned to Sweden.

At the risk of sounding mercenary, in these circumstances I doubt if anybody is going to jump in and try to nab him in what little time there is left, but who knows in this business.

Feel for the guy as that's never nice. From a very selfish point of view however, after missing 3 games thru suspension (debatably costing us the first game of the season),and our only other natural LB in Garrido being injured, its definitely not good that we can't get this last game out of him if he does move on...

Not really heard any rumours of him leaving of late though so fingers crossed he'll still be here. Maybe can't say the same for Hooper if the rumours are true about QPR and Palace both looking at him.

Wasnt he off for a family bereavement at the start of the season also, is this a different one? Condolences to the family.  Is Markus Olsson missing for blackburn as well?

I guess Markus must be.

It confused the hell out of me during the Blackburn game seeing Markus bomb down our wing, I had already had a few and didn't know Martin even had a brother. thought I'd entered some twilight zone where we'd never bought him lol

Apparently it was one of their parents, so we could hardly expect him to play if that's the case. The time off earlier was for a serious family illness, which was presumably the same parent. Very sad for him and all the family.

So how come Markus is okay but martin isn't? Seems a bit iffy. I would have thought we wouldn't sell now as its a bit late for a first teamer to be leaving unless silly money is offered. He may be pur best player but he isn't our most important as garrido is an excellent alternative at this level. Ruddy easily is our most important.

Once again, if the reason for him being off was that he was leaving, they certainly wouldn't say it was a death in the family, they would say it was a niggle.

Martin must just be more of a family man than Markus. It does seem strange but you never know the inner workings of a family. I would be very very surprised if the club would use news like this to cover up a first teamer leaving. That's really low!

The club have said he is on compassionate leave - that's all.

As usual I think we are reading much more here than we ought to with absolutely no deeper knowledge of the situation.

Is it really beyond the realms of possibility that the conversation went something like 'Martin, you're not quite match fit at the moment and you need some time to yourself so feel free to take a week or so to,go back home.' Whereas Markus might be someone who would rather play to keep his mind off it, so has asked to play before taking some time off to go back home?

If they've lost a parent they have my sympathy and the las thing they need to worry about is our interpretations of their motives and actions.

I hope that no one is thinking that the club is creating a transfer smokescreen using a family bereavement as cover. I honestly wouldn't put it past some people though.

That's not what they are saying on a Blackburn forum, they are saying that he is in Sweden due to a family bereavement and haven't heard anything about whether he will be available or not this weekend.

As an aside, I wonder whether this death can explain his poor performance and uncharacteristic reaction against Wolves. If the death was not sudden and the result of ongoing illness, then that would certainly go a long way towards explaining why he was so out of sorts.

People have different ways of coping with bereavement, some find it easier to keep busy and go to work, some don't.

As Morty says, there is no way the club would use this as a smokescreen for a transfer.

I'm pretty sure his poor performance against Wolves was down to the injury he picked up early in the first half. Never seen him get beaten for pace like that before, probably should have come off.

He did come off Mr B, just not in the way you meant. Could be a few weeks before he is ready to play again. Have Sweden got games coming up, and if so, is he in their squad?

I think it was pretty clear at Wolves that his mind wasn't fully on the job. Many speculated at the time that it was because he wanted out, but if he had a gravely ill parent its perfectly understandable.

I think this could explain his very uncharacteristic performance at Wolves. At least the International break comes at a good time for him and the family.
